PRIMARY PURPOSE

Responsible for the daily management of assigned nursing staff, including supervision, development, planning, quality, and coordinating Occupational Health services to ensure high-quality care and optimal outcomes.

MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS

Education

Must have completed a nationally accredited Physician Assistant Program or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Program.

The program must be accredited by a body recognized by the applicable professional agency (Department of Education, Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, and/or the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and/or American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

- Must have a master's degree in an appropriately related field (Physician Assistant Studies, Nursing).

Experience:

- Three (3) years of APP experience preferred.

- Two (2) years of managerial experience preferred.

- Two (2) years of occupational health experience preferred

Certification/Registration/Licensure

- Must have a current healthcare provider CPR course completion card from one of the following:

- American Heart Association

- American Red Cross

- Military Training Network

- Must meet and maintain licensing and registration requirements as delineated by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Medical Staff Rules and Regulations, and Credentialing Policies/Procedures.

- If Physician Assistant:

Current, valid Physician Assistant licensure from the Texas Board of Physician Assistants with prescriptive authority.

Current certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants

If Advanced Practice RN: Current licensure from the Texas Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with authorization to practice as a Family Adult, and have prescriptive authority Must be credentialed as either a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) by American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program (AANPCP)

Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP) by ANCC or AANPCP

Skills or Special Abilities

- Provides care to the assigned patient population in accordance with the current State of Texas Nurse Practice Act, established protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area-specific standards.

- Must be capable of serving as a clinical resource for staff. - Must demonstrate advanced knowledge of assigned department operations, including policies and personnel management.

- Must have effective verbal and written communication skills to work with a diverse population of physicians, patients, nursing staff, management, and administration.

- Must demonstrate patient-centered/patient-valued behaviors.

- Must demonstrate a working knowledge of PC operations and the ability to use word processing and spreadsheet software in a Windows environment, including Excel.

- Must be able to prioritize and advance multiple projects simultaneously.

- Must demonstrate strong leadership capabilities with the ability to delegate tasks.

Responsibilities:

1. Under the supervision of the Director of Occupational Health, responsible for daily management of nursing activities to ensure high-quality patient care and optimal outcomes. Assesses patient needs and staff capabilities, scheduling staff to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities while providing optimal service to internal and external. Communicating with assigned area nurses and float pool coordinators maximizes staff coverage.

2. Serves as a role model and resource. Evaluates staff competencies and delegate tasks effectively. Provides other personnel activities to ensure that clinical activities meet department and Parkland goals and nursing strategic planning. Supervises time, attendance, and patient care activities of assigned nursing staff.

3. Communicate with physicians and other staff to promote integrated, effective care. Serves as patient advocate and follows up on patient care issues and outcomes. Provides expert care to assigned patient population in accordance with established protocols/procedures. Provides patient care educational information and training to patient and family members as appropriate. To ensure efficient, accurate data and documents, and supervise patient information, including charts, surveys, reports, research, correspondence, statistics, and quarterly reports.

4. Supervises, maintains, and quality-controls all clinical instruments and equipment, ensuring proper function. Review various logs and documents as needed. Assures therequisition of supplies and special equipment as needed.

5. Serves as an expert clinical resource for patients and other healthcare team members, including maintaining those skills. Maintains and updates knowledge of infection control, safety, supplies, and appropriate utilization of supplies and materials. 6. Follows established protocols and identifies ways to improve work processes and improve patient and customer satisfaction. Modifies approach, communication, and interaction to take account of sensory impairments and specific age-related needs of all customers. Develops, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall division goals.

7. Responsible for nursing performance improvement practices in the assigned area. Collaborates with staff, physicians, administration, and risk management to evaluate and improve patient services. Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, and flows in the assigned area and implements appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the department's overall goals and Parkland. Synthesizes information and shares it with a larger group.

8. Establishes and maintains effective nursing procedures. Develops and evaluates staff activities to promote knowledge of all rules, regulations, policies, procedures, laws, and guidelines, including The Joint Commission and Nurse Practice Act, that impact nursing and ensure compliance. Collaborates with Directors. Maintains communication on system-wide practices through committee participation.

9. Responsible for a collaborative work team to ensure positive working relationships. Communicates effectively with physicians, students, and other departments such as Radiology, Pharmacy, Laboratory Services, Environmental Services, Material Services Department, Clinical Engineering, Risk, Safety, Compliance, Information Technology, Security, Financial Services, and other co-located departments. Maintains good communication with other hospitals, government/regulatory agencies, and community representatives. 10. Participates in multidisciplinary and departmental committees as selected and assigned.

11. Plans, implements and leads patient education classes and in-services for staff members in order to educate themon important topics.

12. Creates environment and expectation and provides exceptional patient experience. Makes human connections, including being mindful of patients, creating an atmosphere of respect and courtesy, listening and responding to patient concerns, and providing clear explanations of care delivery and care planning, all reinforced through standardized approaches.

13. Ensures appropriate Occupational Health services are available for all Parkland employees. Ensures employees are treated for on-the-job injuries, and appropriate counseling and education for employees is provided as needed. Oversees the laboratory, testing, and immunization services to help provide Parkland with a healthy workforce.

14. Manages the preparation, distribution, and maintenance of health data, records, and reports to ensure that appropriate documentation is maintained and communicated to internal and external contacts as needed.

15. Plans, develops and implements methods to evaluate and track the success of programs to ensure that services are effectively meeting the needs of Parkland and its staff. 16. Ensures informed use of department resources through clear policies, including equipment, supplies, personnel hiring/training practices, and service utilization.

17. Assists with the development, implementation, monitoring, revision, and evaluation of annual goals for the assigned area that support the missions and objectives of Parkland. Implements system goals in designated areas.

18. Ensures HIPAA compliance with Occupational Health records maintenance, retrieval, and storage. Coaches team and internal customers on HIPAA regulatory guidelines related to Employee Health records. 19. Oversees and manages the operational aspects of Occupational Health projects, ensuring monitoring of status and execution.

20. Annually reviews Occupational Health policies and develops new protocols/procedures covering the delivery of care to ensure Parkland maintains a healthy workforce.

21. Manages the preparation, distribution, and maintenance of health data, records, and reports to ensure that appropriate documentation is maintained and communicated to internal and external contacts as needed. 22. Develops and publishes reports, dashboards, pivot tables, spreadsheets, charts, graphs, and/or presentations in support of projects and programs.
