Essential Job Duties |
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated
Roofer to join our Facilities Division team. In this role, you will provide high-quality maintenance, repair, and installation of campus building envelopes, including all roofs and above/below grade waterproofing. As a crew leader, you will oversee a team of 2-5 employees, including trades workers, maintenance mechanics, and helpers. You will maintain a safe and organized work environment, communicate effectively with your team, and ensure projects meet the university's quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a small crew in inspecting, maintaining, and repairing roofs to ensure quality work.
- Perform journeyman-level tasks, including patching, replacing, and maintaining roofs using hot or cold methods.
- Repair or replace roofing systems such as single-ply, BUR, modified bitumen, metal, slate, and shingle roofs.
- Perform above and below grade waterproofing, including resealing windows, repairing control joints, and applying waterproofing membranes.
- Execute preventive maintenance and repairs for all building envelope components.
- Review plans, estimates, and site conditions to adjust work and ensure successful project completion.
- Communicate technical and safety information to crew members to ensure proper assembly, demolition, and waste disposal.
- Coordinate work assignments with co-workers, contractors, vendors, and other university personnel.
- Required to lift up to 60 pounds and perform physically active work safely.

Other Responsibilities |
- This position has been designated as essential personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule
- This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor
- This position will assist other trades whenever necessary

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Extensive experience in maintenance and repair of commercial roofing systems and waterproofing foundations.
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate a small crew effectively.
- Knowledge of building envelope systems and waterproofing techniques.

- Experience in commercial roofing materials and installation methods.
