Position Purpose
To portray all of the characteristics of a real patient, simulating the signs and symptoms. Standardized patients MAY be physically examined by students and faculty as part of the medical students' learning experience.
Required Qualifications

  • Flexibility regarding scheduling and assignments.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to be instructed by a Standardized Patient Educator and consistently simulate a case scenario in an accurate, reliable and professional manner.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken. Strong reading and writing skills to absorb and use the detailed case training and exam procedural information.
  • Excellent recall of learner performance.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong commitment to a diverse working environment and to serving the needs of a large and diverse community.
  • Be highly dependable and punctual.
  • Have repeated physical examination maneuvers performed on self.
  • Wear a hospital gown with only undergarments underneath, while on camera and/or observed live through an observation window or video monitor.
  • Be audio and videotaped during simulations.
  • Applicants with acting experience are encouraged to apply, though this is not an obligatory skill set.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Fluent in Spanish/ Medical Spanish a priority

Schedule
Work schedule varies, events mainly on Wednesday and Thursday mornings throughout the academic year.

  • Provides verbal constructive feedback to medical students.
  • Works in a professional manner when interacting with learners, faculty, supervisors and peers.
  • Simulates all aspects of scenarios, including history of current problem, affect/behavior and physical findings, in a standardized, accurate, and reliable manner.
  • Accepts ongoing feedback from facilitators and incorporates into case simulation.
