Description
The Principal Scientist/Sr SME/Manager is responsible for providing scientific support to the Measurement Systems & Services Global Business Line. This position will also be responsible for managing, directing, and leading a team of Physics professionals who support the business line organization. He/she is regarded as an expert to those within the company as well as outside the company both in the national and international community. He/she will provide scientific input to all aspects of the business including projects/orders, proposals, and systems/solutions. This includes but is not limited to: independently analyzing the performance and application of existing and new analysis techniques; providing scientific support for existing products and systems; developing requirement specifications for new systems capability and related test procedures and documentation; visiting and interacting with the Sales Teams and customers to define solutions; working closely with Systems Engineering and Software Teams in the development of solutions and in the execution of special projects; assisting Sales in responding to systems inquiries; contributing technical information in support of systems proposals. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Manage, direct, lead, and mentor team of Physics professionals.
- Assisting Sales Teams in technical discussions/meetings/visits with customers to understand needs and define solutions.
- Support development of Proposals & future business by providing technical expertise, recommending solutions, performing calculations for system performance and design if needed, contributing/writing technical component of proposals. Collaborate and work with the Systems Proposals & Projects Team, the Engineering and Software Teams, and Management in the development of the solutions.
- Support projects/orders by providing technical expertise and support, which may include performing testing, analysis, calibrations, conducting FAT & SATs, training. Work with the Systems Projects Team, the Systems Engineering and Software Teams, and Management in the execution of these projects.
- Manage the execution of multiple and/or concurrent projects under their own guidance, or they could be assigned the leadership of multiple projects.
- Support existing product sustaining and development by performing testing and calculations.
- Lead investigation of/managing development projects of new analysis technologies & systems; providing scientific support for existing products and systems; developing requirement specifications for new systems capabilities and related test procedures and documentation.
- Remain current on knowledge of the industry through training; share knowledge by developing and/or giving training in areas of which you can share your expertise.
- Some travel may be required, both domestically and internationally, as needed.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE The following technical skills are desired:
- Expert knowledge of radiation detection and measurement equipment.
- Working easily with mathematics and statistical concepts.
- Strong application-specific understanding.
- Experience in programming, python or C++ are preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of supporting calculation tools (e.g.:MicroShield, Mathematica).
- Core expertise in one or more of the following areas, and familiarity with the others: ASTM Test Methods C1030, C1133, C1207, C1221, C1268, C1316, C1455, C1458, C1493, C1500, C1514, and C1718. Guide C1592, Terminology C1673, and Guide C1726 are applicable.
- In-depth knowledge of NDA analysis algorithms and applicability (and limitations) to the assay conditions.
- In-depth knowledge of and experience with Mirion Technologies NDA products and applications including software products NDA2000, Genie2000, ISOCS, IUE, and MGA/U.
- Practical experience in gamma spectroscopy systems and passive and active neutron detection techniques.
- Knowledge of computational codes used for modeling such as MCNP or MCNPX.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with co-workers in cross-functional project teams including Engineering, QA, and PMO.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum MS or equivalent in Science or Engineering.
- PhD or equivalent in Science or Engineering can equate to 3 years' experience.
- Minimum of 15 years' experience in a relevant application.
- A track record of a leadership roles in highly skilled teams, such as standards committees, conference organization or large multi-site, collaborative R&D projects.
- Recognized nationally as an expert in one or more Non-Destructive Assay (NDA) fields through publications, peer reviewed by other subject matter experts (SMEs), active participation in national NDA conferences, or conducting NDA training courses.
- Experience in managing, leading, mentoring, providing training to internal team members and/or external students that may have a varied/wide range of knowledge.
