Performs complex professional and administrative architectural and engineering duties; responsible for execution to completion of major architectural projects at TTU and TTUHSC.

Major/Essential Functions

CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT: Initiate the development of research construction contracts and the corresponding purchase orders. Conduct regular research construction progress meetings and site visits to monitor research construction progress and adherence to construction documents. Develop design solutions for unforeseen site conditions that conflict with the architectural design. Keep track of all project expenses to ensure budget adherence. Review and process contractors' Pay Applications.

DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENT DEVELOPMENT: Develop and/or manage the development of complex architectural designs that fulfill the program requirements defined in the Pre-Design phase and are compliant with Texas Accessibility Standards, the model building codes in which the University must comply, and campus architectural standards. Manage the preparation of the research construction documents. Conduct formal design reviews with campus personnel and coordinate the revision of the research construction documents to address any comments made during the review. Obtain written approval from campus authorities requiring notice of research construction projects. Submit sealed construction documents to a registered accessibility specialist as required by TDLR.

BIDDING: Conduct pre-bid meetings with contractors who will be providing proposals for the research construction projects. Evaluate bids for budget compliance and thoroughness.

PROJECT CLOSEOUT/WARRANTY: Issue a Certificate of Substantial Completion. Ensure research construction punch-list items have been completed. Process final contractor Pay Applications. Obtain an inspection from a registered accessibility specialist as required by TDLR. Coordinate the resolution of research construction issues within the warranty period. Conduct an inspection of project site eleven months after substantial completion, so any warranty items have been addressed before the end of the warranty period.

FACILITY AUDITS: Participate in the inspection of existing campus facilities and potential university building purchases for code compliance deficits. Identify deficits in a written report. Provide recommendations for resolution, as necessary.

TECHNICAL SPECIALIST: Serve as subject matter expert for model building codes, Texas Accessibility Standards, campus architectural standards, and construction best practices. Seek out professional development opportunities to keep up-to-date with the latest codes, construction techniques, and energy conservation methods.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Architecture required; five years specifically related experience. An advanced degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Licensed Architect
  • Must be able to design and review technical criteria, drawings, and specifications and present to consulting engineers and customers.
  • Strong knowledge of construction estimating programs (Microsoft project scheduler), AutoCAD Revit architectural design computer software and Building Information Management (BIM) computer software
