POSITION SUMMARY

The Yard Jockey will be responsible for assisting operations in an active trailer yard, performing a variety of duties including operating a spotter truck. This role reports to the Warehouse Supervisor and is based out of our Hendersonville, North Carolina location.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (essential functions of the job)

Responsibilities include:

  • Correctly confirms the safe operational condition of vehicles and/or equipment before and after use
  • Ensure vehicles and/or equipment and seal inspections
  • Work with dispatch and warehouse staff regarding communicating, sequencing, and movement coordination
  • Safely operate material handling equipment to load or unload materials and ensure proper closure of the trailer as necessary
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment
  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the trailer yard through meticulous attention to detail and daily yard audits
  • Accountable for food safety, food quality, and regulatory requirements for their position
  • Encouraged to notify management about actual or potential food safety issues
  • Adopt and maintain all SQF requirements for their position
  • Empowerment to work with supervision to resolve food safety and food quality issues within their scope of work
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required Qualifications

* High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

  • Valid "Class-C" Driver's License required
  • One year of experience as a yard jockey operator required

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the food/beverage industry (a plus)
  • Previous experience in Manufacturing or production environment (a plus)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Detailed oriented and have the ability to multi-task
  • Proven organizational skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a typical office setting; driving a motor vehicle and occasionally working in the field.

FREQUENT: sitting, upward and downward flexion of neck; fine finger dexterity and light to moderate finger pressure to include extended periods of keyboard and mouse use, side-to-side turning of neck, walking, standing, bending and stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting at waist, moderate wrist torque to twist equipment knobs and dials.

OCCASIONAL: squatting, kneeling, reach above and at shoulder height, moderate grasp to manipulate reference books and manuals; lifting objects weighing up to 50lbs. from below waist to above shoulders and transporting distances up to 50 feet.

VISION: Ability to see in the normal visual range with or without correction.

HEARING: Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
