Job Description |
Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.
Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.
Virginia Western Community College is accepting applications for a part-time Earn to Learn (
ETL) Nursing Program Coordinator. This position facilitates the Earn to Learn Nursing Program coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of clinical sites participating in the
ETL grant-funded program designed to transform nurse clinical education and accelerate the development of practice ready nurse graduates as part of the Virginia's Earn to Learn Nursing Education Acceleration Program funded through December 31, 2025. Arranges the clinical schedule and all orientations at the facilities each semester. Coordinates with the program director, hospital
ETL Coordinator, and Nursing Support Specialist to ensure that clinical instructors/ RN mentors meet the credentialing requirements of assigned facilities and Virginia Western. Ensures that required
ETL students and faculty documentation is submitted to the clinical facilities within the required periods. Collaborates with hospital
ETL coordinator planning an orientation program for all new clinical faculty/RN mentors and students to ensure program's outcomes are met and compliance is maintained with the Virginia Board of Nursing and
ACEN accreditor. Performs regular visits to clinical agencies as needed to support new and experienced faculty, documenting the findings of each visit. Serves as a preceptor supervisor when students are in
ETL clinical rotations. In emergent situations, collaborates with the program director to help arrange substitute clinical coverage and experiences for students.
Restricted, part-time wage position dependent upon the conditions of the VA Department of Health Earn to Learn Grant (
ARPA funding which is time-limited, federal funds). Hours anticipated to be 20-29 per week based on grant budget. This position is funded through December 31, 2025.

KSA's/Required Qualifications |
BSN required.- RN licensure in Virginia or multistate.
- Minimum of three years of clinical experience as a registered nurse
- Familiarity with clinical and educational processes
- Current knowledge of nursing practice at the registered nurse level
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Above-average skills related to organization, attention to detail, and effective time management
- Ability to effectively manage, lead, and serve on teams
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, clinical partners,and RN mentors.
- Fluent in English
- Excellent computer skills, including database management. Excellent communication and planning skills.
- Functions ethically in all work situations
