In this position, you will independently manage a diverse portfolio of funds, offering expert financial guidance to faculty while ensuring accurate reporting, forecasting, and compliance with departmental, university, and agency policies. Your ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders-from faculty and leadership to research teams-will be essential in ensuring that financial strategies align with the department's goals. You'll also provide thoughtful analysis and resolution of complex budget and resource challenges, with a focus on both efficiency and responsiveness.

The Financial Analyst will handle a variety of funding sources, including federal and private grants, gifts/endowments, clinical trial funds, and more, all requiring a keen understanding of advanced financial concepts and regulations. Strong ethics, professional integrity, and sound judgment are essential as you navigate sensitive financial matters and work to maintain the highest standards of accountability. To be an effective Financial Analyst, experience in financial management, particularly with complex funding portfolios, strong communication skills to present and explain financial data clearly to diverse stakeholders, ability to research, interpret, and apply financial policies and regulations effectively and a collaborative spirit with a focus on continuous learning and professional growth will help you be successful in this role.

This position offers a hybrid-remote work schedule, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, while fostering team engagement and connection with on-site work on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The Financial Portfolio Analyst is a critical member of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (DPBS) Financial Services Team and plays a crucial role in the overall successful support and management of funding for the Faculty & Principal Investigators. As a valued Team member in the Financial Services Unit, this position will benefit from the vast pool of experience that exists within the Team, all who are ready and willing to provide support and training to new Team members. It is a collaborative work environment. The Analyst will participate in larger dynamic Team projects, which will help to build the experience, understanding and networking skills for successful career development at UCSF.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $85,700 - $128,600 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum three years experience or equivalent combination of experience / training.
  • Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
  • Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of fund management and administration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
  • Independent judgment and strong organization and communication skills and customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.
  • Proven interpersonal skills with peers throughout the organization; strong service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Proven ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment.
  • Ability to independently gather required information to organize, and perform financial analysis assignments.
  • Proven ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proven ability using spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to function as a member of a team.
  • Ability to manage significant volume of transactions.
  • Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
