The Educational Specialist II - Mathematics Implementation and Teacher Support Specialist is based in the Mathematics Office within the Office of Teaching and Learning. This position plays a key role in advancing the district's math initiatives by managing and supporting MSDE-designated Comprehensive Support and Improvement Schools (CSI) and Targeted Support and Improvement Schools (TSI) in implementing high-quality instructional materials (HQIM), providing professional learning opportunities, developing academic plans, and devising assessment strategies. This role involves working both in-person and at schools and reports to the Director of Mathematics. This position is funded through the Maryland State Department of Education's Title I School Improvement Grant. Continuation is contingent upon available funding.
Essential Functions
- Provides guidance and support to school leadership teams to build consensus and support around strategies and goals that the CSI/TSI team will monitor.
- Works with the Mathematics Office to coordinate learning walks and differentiated professional learning across multiple schools, integrating both data and the lived experiences of teachers and students in City Schools.
- Collaborates with appropriate principal supervisors and school-based and district staff to provide guidance for HQIM implementation in alignment with district initiatives.
- Supports identified schools and gathers essential documentation and materials to exhibit adherence to the requirements for school improvement support in eligible schools.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations by creating the necessary documentation for relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinates and participates in Title I monitoring visits from district or state leadership.
- Provides advice and technical assistance in implementing HQIM, professional learning, and data analysis.
- Continuously monitors and analyzes the effectiveness of differentiated school strategies, using data to inform decisions and support schools in making necessary adjustments for improved outcomes.
- Utilizes resources appropriately to complete work efficiently; proactively communicates work status; participates and contributes fully as a team member; and exercises sound judgment and decision-making skills to resolve sensitive matters.
- Maintains confidential and sensitive information.
- Remains current on research and best practices in K-12 mathematics content, pedagogy, and HQIM implementation.
- Documents and communicates best practices for implementing HQIM, supporting mathematics teachers, and developing assessment strategies to drive systemic change.
- Attends the Office of Mathematics meetings regularly.
- Provides coaching, as needed, to build HQIM implementation support and capacity in teams across the organization.

Desired Qualifications
- A Master's Degree in Education or a related field. The degree must be from an accredited college or university.
- A valid Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional certificate.
- Previous teaching experience in math; urban experience preferred.
- 5+ years of experience working in local districts and/or schools.
- 6-8 years of professional experience, with proven experience in successfully designing and managing complex projects and initiatives.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Excel, Microsoft Office 365, and Google to track and manage grant and school data information and generate reports.
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, rules, and policies affecting City Schools' educators.
