Description of Work
Assist the Dean in the oversight of various duties, which may include but aren't limited to, advancing research missions, supporting the undergraduate and graduate degree programs, faculty evaluation, faculty development, facilitate external support for undergraduate and graduate programs, curriculum development, course schedule planning, faculty/staff hiring and supervision, budget development, fiscal monitoring, and other related administrative activities with and for the assigned program areas. Reports directly to the Dean and may assume some duties of the Dean in their absence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education ( ADRGE) reports directly to the Dean of the Klein College of Science ( KCOS), is a member of the KCOS Executive Team, and is a tenured faculty member within the KCOS. The ADRGE is responsible for leading the advancement of the KCOS research and graduate education missions. The ADRGE works closely with leaders within the college and across campus who are responsible for supporting research and graduate education, including but not limited to Associate Deans, Department Chairs, Graduate Program Directors, Center Directors, the Division of Research, and the Graduate School.

The administrative responsibilities for the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education include the following:

  • overseeing and supporting activities to promote and facilitate sponsored research in the college, including faculty onboarding, mentoring, grant writing, and connecting researchers with funding opportunities;


  • serving as the Klein College of Science liaison with the Division of Research, in part by representing the college in the monthly Associate Deans for Research meetings;
  • partnering with the Division of Research and other units to support research in the college including, but not limited to, addressing matters of pre-award and post-award support;
  • promoting and facilitating opportunities for research collaborations across the college, as well as collaborations external to the college and the university;
  • overseeing the creation, support and ongoing evaluation of graduate degree programs and certificates in the college;
  • promoting and supporting efforts to recruit and foster the success of promising graduate students of varying ages, races, ethnicities, backgrounds, identities, and abilities;
  • overseeing program use of graduate assistantships, and working to acquire new assistantships from various funding sources;
  • leading in the creation, support and ongoing evaluation of research centers, clusters, and programs in the college;
  • serving as the primary compliance and routing administrator for the Klein College of Science in the Niner Research Portal; and
  • completing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Experience/Education
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

* Record of excellence in leadership;
* Demonstrated ability to address the needs and concerns of a multidisciplinary college.
