Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Facilities Administration department provides support services to the office of Facilities across all units including Physical Plant, Special Projects, Architecture and Construction Services and the VCBA-Facilities. Areas of service include work management & campus billing, purchasing, inventory control, training, recruitment, leavekeeping, employee support, campus security & access, budget development, financial reporting and reconciliation of multiple systems.

This unit is a resource and liaison for the university's Finance, Budget and Human Resource departments, and also serves as a customer care and problem resolution office.

The Physical Security Access Management Team within Facilities Administration provides services designed to promote student satisfaction, the success of faculty and staff, and provide a safe educational environment. The Team provides the critical function of securing the campus buildings and structures; enhancing the effectiveness of safety and security units with technological support in the form of security cameras, gate controls, door readers; and provides necessary flexibility to meet the mission of the University without sacrificing security. It provides physical security information management. In addition, this function provides systems administration support for police systems to include databases and communications.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
Key Duties:

  • Collaborates closely with departmental professionals to manage and support all university physical security technologies and systems, including door access, video management, key/access, video management and work orders. The University currently deploys over 1,000 electronic doors and entry systems, along with more than 600 security cameras.
  • Requires a comprehensive understanding of various technologies, system integration and networking to effectively provide in-depth application support, system upgrades, analysis, troubleshooting and issue resolution.
  • Requires ability to research emerging technologies related to physical security systems and new technical solutions to enhance functionality and processes.
  • Provides consultation and makes recommendations to management, and plays a crucial role in planning new systems or enhancing existing ones.


Responsibilities include:
Access Control Management:

  • Administer the OnGuard Lenel system, including adding, updating, and removing user access credentials.
  • Set up and manage access levels and permissions for different areas of the campus.
  • Set up time zones and schedules for campus doors
  • Monitor and respond to access control events and alarms.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues with the system.
  • Provide technical support to university staff and students regarding access control issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of all access control activities and incidents.
  • Enforce access control policies and procedures to maintain campus security.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and emergency services when necessary.
  • Stay updated on the latest security technology trends and recommend enhancements.

Video Management:

  • Install and configure surveillance cameras and related equipment.
  • Plan and design surveillance camera layouts to maximize coverage and effectiveness.
  • Perform routine maintenance and system checks to ensure cameras are operational.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues with surveillance equipment.
  • Collaborate with security personnel to determine optimal camera placement.
  • Ensure compliance with security protocols and privacy regulations.
  • Keep detailed records of installations, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Provide technical support and training to staff on the use of surveillance systems

*This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from a two year technical college with a major in an Information Technology field and one year in the information technology field related to the position's role; or graduation from a four year college or university and one year experience in the information technology field related to the position's role; or graduation from a four year college or university with a major in an Information Technology area. Related information technology experience may be substituted year for year for the required education.
Preferred education, professional skills and experience

  • Background in systems management, computer software and hardware troubleshooting.
  • General knowledge of networking to assist with the identification of issues related to network access and compatibility with hardware/software.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of constituents both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision on problem identification and resolution and to manage technical projects.
  • Familiarity with police and physical security systems.

Required Certifications or licensure
NC Driver's License or the ability to obtain within 30 days.
