Job Summary
The Senior Benefits Analyst supports the management and administration of benefit plans by supporting day-to-day interactions with carriers, vendors, and Associates on escalated issues for resolution. This role requires an in-depth understanding of benefits and payroll procedures and capability for solving complex problems. The Senior Benefits Analyst is responsible for ongoing analysis, reconciliation, auditing and project support for benefits programs such as medical, dental, vision, FSA/HSA, life, disability, time off (including FMLA, ADAAA, Pregnancy Act, Military leave and other MWHC leaves), ancillary benefits and retirement offerings. The position will interpret and ensure the administration of Mary Washington Healthcare benefits in accordance with the Summary Plan Description and any applicable laws, contractual arrangements and corporate policy.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Maintains current knowledge of benefit plan documents to ensure compliance, as well as fair and consistent administration.
  • Creates data files for the annual reports, management reporting, statistics, and for ad hoc purposes.
  • Performs routine eligibility audits to assure the HRIS system is set up properly to offer correct benefits and time off.
  • Participates in the analysis, data collection, and document review for major benefit plan events, including platform migration, plan amendments, total rewards statements, plan surveys, or other similar projects and activities as needed.
  • Partners with vendors and utilizes ERP system to prepare benefit reports and documents for review.
  • Takes the lead in complex projects within the benefits area to redesign current processes, procedures, and programs.
  • Assists with training of new department personnel on all departmental procedures, customer service and plans for which the department is responsible as assigned.
  • Assists with development of benefit communications, review of SPD changes, intranet and HRIS updates as needed.
  • Coordinate and recommend the development and sharing of benefit communication and education materials as needed based on changes being implemented.
  • Tracks and follows-up on benefit related escalations that require research and coordination with other areas of HR and/or payroll.
  • Provides guidance and support to the Human Resources department on a variety of Associate benefit initiatives.
  • Delivers in-person and virtual presentations to individual and group audiences as it pertains to MWHC benefits and time off.
  • Helps with the development of the timelines and trackers for benefit projects and processes.
  • Supports the Benefits Manager to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Develops creative solutions to address Associate benefit needs.
  • Monitors trends in Associate benefits and recommend changes to existing policies.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with external vendors and partners.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive Benefits Administration/Analyst, required.
  • Must have Excellent/Advanced MS Excel spreadsheet skills.
  • Experience leading medium to large sized projects is preferred.
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking.
  • A history of interacting with healthcare carriers/vendors, along with internal stakeholders for Benefits related questions is critically important.
  • Proven knowledge of state and federal laws related to Associate benefits.
  • Ability to evaluate complex benefit programs and recommend improvements.
  • Adept with counseling individuals and families in one-to-one or group settings on their benefit offerings and assisting during transitional moments such as a life event or retirement.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills to resolve issues in a variety of complex situations.
