Job Description

The Marc Johnson Lab leads a cutting-edge research program exploring the complex interactions between viruses and their host organisms. The Johnson lab focuses on uncovering how viruses subvert host systems, specifically investigating the mechanisms by which viral components are transported to the correct cellular locations for assembly. By advancing our understanding of these processes, the lab aims to identify novel targets for antiviral drug development, contributing to transformative breakthroughs in virology and therapeutic innovation.

We have an immediate need to fill a Senior Research/Lab Technician in a virology and microbiology lab. The Individual will oversee the Wastewater Surveillance Project while creating a daily schedule of samples. This requires knowledge of extracting viral RNA from environmental samples and running/maintaining the instruments used in extractions. Other duties involve lab chores, organizing lab materials, cell culture and viral neutralization assays. Techniques also utilize basic PCR, cloning, and possibly flow cytometry. This role interacts heavily with undergraduates.

This position will work a strict onsite, Tuesday-Saturday work schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Good at organizing people and workflow; cell culture and RNA extractions

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $16.72 - $25.00 per hour
Grade: GGS 007
