Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Assistant Director of Professional Experiences facilitates high-quality field experiences and internships for initial licensure programs in the Watson College of Education. This role manages placement processes, collaborates with public schools and faculty to meet program needs, and ensures compliance with school system requirements. The Assistant Director provides student support, maintains accurate placement data, and oversees background check processes. They also administer intervention processes, coordinate evaluation dissemination, and manage resources to enhance professional experiences for students. This position contributes to the Professional Experiences Team's efforts to support teacher candidates, faculty, and school partners effectively.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Master's degree in education or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in student placements, program coordination, or related work in education, workforce development, or organizational partnerships.
  • Experience facilitating or managing field experiences, internships, or experiential learning programs for students.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Proficiency in data management, placement systems and reporting.
  • Strong personal attributes including organizational skills, attention to detail, positive interactional style and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and technology tools including experience with online applications and surveys.
  • Prior experience in student-focused work settings collaborating with a range of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of teacher education programs and licensure recommendation process as mandated by the state of North Carolina Department for Public Instruction.
  • Knowledge of multiple pathways and programs that lead to initial teacher licensure.
  • Experience handling sensitive student information and communications with attention to conflict resolution.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of Engagement, Professional Learning, and Scholarship in the Watson College of Education support students in becoming teachers and leaders in education. The office initiates and develops meaningful relationships with schools and community partners that share our commitment to a continuum of professional practices and support. The office includes the Associate Dean for Engagement, Professional Learning, and Scholarship, The WCE Professional Development System, The Office of Professional Experiences, The Betty Holden Stike Education Laboratory, Watson College International Programs, Isaac Bear Early College, D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy, and the Curriculum Materials Center. The primary purpose of the Office of Engagement, Professional Learning, and Scholarship is to intentionally engage in collaborative relationships that enhance teaching and learning in southeastern North Carolina.
