Mission

The mission is to lead project teams to develop innovative, modular, reliable & cost-efficient platforms, within targeted budget, performances & deadlines, adhering to the guidelines of the Concept-to-Product process for Laboratory. The Product Development Manager is responsible for ensuring the highest level of quality in the engineering function, executing product development roadmaps and project schedules, managing project budgets and maintaining a strong level of competency to ensure a highly competitive product portfolio. The position is based in our Rock Hill, SC plant, and reports to the Engineering Manager.

Main Responsibilities



  • Team Leadership (recruitment, development, action plans, Targets, Safety, engagement ...)
  • Ensure Quality through Poke-Yoke design for suppliers & production, modular design and re-use of standard parts.
  • Lead the design reviews and the execution of the Lab engineering tests
  • Ensure all KPI's on new product development projects are achieved including budgets, timing, specification, documentation deliverables and first time right.
  • Drive effective cross-functional project team meetings following the execution and compensate for deviations to project schedule
  • Ensure product portfolio continuously meets legislative, industrial, medical and corporate standards through design, safety review and certification processes.
  • Provide guidance and support to maintain technical files.
  • Benchmarking to execute competitive product analysis
  • Lead product cost reductions efforts managing the investigation and execution of new ideas and working with purchasing and manufacturing to identify updates to current products to reduce cost in line with CC7 targets.
  • Build an application knowledge of laboratory products documenting the technical knowledge and lessons learned.
  • Maintain a time to technology roadmap to create product features ahead of competition.

What we expect of you?

Experience requirements



  • 10+ years in successful project management is a must, from project ideas contribution, support in specifications definition with customers, project execution, up to launch.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory gas distribution requirements is a plus as well as gas products like manifolds, gas cabinets, compressors, dryers/filtration, vacuum pumps, control panels and their application within a laboratory environment.
  • Familiar with engineering release software, creation of Design notifications/Engineering change orders, as well as New Product Gate process (CTP)
  • Commercial awareness to make appropriate proposals to balance conflicting commercial and technical drivers.
  • Management expertise to build & develop a cohesive team, to provide leadership & direction, and to foster good communications across project teams & functions.
  • Communication and presentation skills to provide updates to management in product steering committee meetings (PCM).
  • Marketing & Financial competence to the drive project team and select appropriate design according to the targets.
  • Good understanding of the supplier fabrication processes, and of the Lean assembly concept, able to design according to manufacturing constraints, like with Poka-Yoke.
  • Knowledge of Quality concepts, Risk analysis (D-FMEA, P-FMEA, MTBF ...), and Safety requirements.



Education requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline
  • Master/MBA is a plus for growth
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
