Job Summary

Under the direction of the Communications Director or their designee and the indirect supervision of the Associate Director for Visual Communications, using NJEA's branding guidelines; assists in all graphic design functions, including preparing visuals for websites, video productions, and all other forms of print and digital media; trafficking of graphic design work to completion using project management software; providing specifications for production; and related duties as required.


Essential Functions

  1. Prepares files and spec sheets to comply with Purchasing requirements.
  2. Creates and produces design projects as delegated by the Associate Director for Visual Communications.
  3. Assists the Associate Director in coordinating the development of design projects and maintains a back-up system of all projects and materials.
  4. Assists in the scheduling of all design work.
  5. Handles basic maintenance of computers and other electronic devices, including ordering and maintaining supplies for printers. Ensures that peripheral equipment is operational and prepared for use and serves as primary liaison with Information Systems and peripheral equipment vendors for routine maintenance, upkeep, and software upgrades and repairs.
  6. Monitors projects within the design unit to be able to complete jobs assigned to other designers when necessary.
  7. Provides branding support to local affiliates and organizational partners as assigned.
  8. Assists, as requested, with other activities of the Association's Communications Division or with general assignments common to all Association staff members.


Qualifications, Training & Experience

  • Graduation from high school or vocational high school or possession of an approved high school equivalency certificate.
  • Demonstrated professional graphic design/layout skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all industry-standard graphic design, digital media and word processing software.


Knowledge & Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of approved English usage and of correct spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure.
  • Considerable knowledge of computer equipment and peripherals used in graphic design and all aspects of pre-press production of printed materials.
  • Ability to prepare files and specification sheets for production.
  • Advanced knowledge of design principles and the content and intent of design programs.
  • Ability to use graphic design software to follow an established layout or develop a layout from planning to satisfactory completion.
  • Ability to comprehend instructions and identify errors in original and finished materials.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with staff, elected leaders, and others to produce high-quality design projects, from inception to completion.
