Leads and oversees the daily operations of the Environmental Services (EVS) departments across both the hospital and home campus facilities. Ensures the highest standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety are maintained in all areas, in compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational policies. Develops and implements strategies to enhance service delivery, staff productivity, patient satisfaction, and infection prevention while managing resources efficiently. Collaborates with various hospital and home campus departments to ensure a safe, clean, and comfortable environment. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  • Leads, mentors, and supervises EVS teams across both hospital and home campus settings.
  • Develops departmental goals and ensure alignment with Boys Town's mission, values, and objectives.
  • Fosters a positive and collaborative work environment, encouraging teamwork, accountability, and professional development.
  • Ensures adequate staffing levels, scheduling, and assignment of duties to optimize efficiency.
  • Conducts regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and implement development plans.
  • Ensures all areas, including patient rooms, operating rooms, outpatient clinics, family homes, education, administrative office and common spaces, meet stringent cleanliness and sanitation standards.
  • Implements and monitors cleaning protocols to ensure compliance with infection prevention regulations.
  • Oversees the daily operation of housekeeping, laundry, waste management, and linen services.
  • Develops and implements processes for routine inspections, audits, and compliance checks.
  • Collaborates with clinical and administrative teams to address and resolve any operational challenges.
  • Works closely with infection prevention teams to ensure compliance with Joint Commission, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies' guidelines.
  • Establishes and enforces protocols for handling hazardous waste, biohazardous materials, and infectious substances.
  • Ensures compliance with infectious disease prevention measures.
  • Implements safety programs and trains staff on proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors the departmental budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
  • Controls supply inventories, including cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment, ensuring efficient use and procurement.
  • Identifies cost-saving initiatives without compromising the quality of services.
  • Oversees equipment maintenance, repair, and replacement as needed.
  • Develops and updates environmental services policies and procedures in accordance with the latest healthcare standards and regulations.
  • Ensures all staff are trained and updated on regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Conducts ongoing assessments and maintain documentation for accreditation and inspections.
  • Monitors patient and staff feedback regarding environmental services and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  • Analyzes trends, operational metrics, and infection data to improve service quality.
  • Collaborates with the patient experience team to ensure a pleasant and comfortable environment for patients and visitors.
  • Continuously seeks ways to enhance services, making recommendations for process improvements and innovations.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for environmental services in both hospital and home campus environments.
  • Collaborates with nursing, facilities management, and other departments to coordinate efforts for facility upkeep and emergency response.
  • Represents the department in interdisciplinary meetings, providing input and updates on environmental services.
  • Leads efforts to incorporate environmentally sustainable practices in EVS operations, including waste reduction, recycling programs, and eco-friendly cleaning products.
  • Ensures both hospital and home care facilities meet any environmental health standards.
  • Ensures support for construction related activities and projects in collaboration with facilities management and third-party contractors as needed.
  • Leads efforts to ensure site clinic cleaning contracts and training requirements are updated.
  • Establishes campus pest control program, ensuring proper staffing, training, and monitoring.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Proficient in budget management, staffing, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to perform cost analysis of all environmental contracts and oversee the performance of contracted services by way of audits per the performance and standards compliance.
  • Ability to analyze data, present and effectively communicate to all levels within the organization related to Environmental Services.
  • Ability to assess a malfunction and ascertain necessary personnel, materials, and finances to corrective measures.
  • Ability to devise and implement numerous programs, productions, and projects.
  • Ability to establish and maintain courteous, cooperative relations when interacting with other personnel, hospital staff, and public.
  • Ability to communicate with staff, contractors, and others.
  • Ability to supervise, review and evaluate staff.
  • Ability to administer safety practices involving hazardous chemicals, The Joint Commission requirements, and federal, state, and OSHA requirements.
  • Ability to administer Infection Prevention standards set forth by BTNRH policies.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Services, Healthcare Administration, Facilities Management, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in environmental services or healthcare operations required.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a management role required.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare environmental standards, infection prevention practices, and safety regulations required.
  • Full knowledge of pertinent regulatory agencies and the policies, codes, standards and regulations for a healthcare environment required.
  • On-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple locations, or a large team is preferred.
  • Certification in Healthcare Environmental Services (CHESP) or related certifications preferred.
