The Sr. Global Category Manager will provide strategic and tactical direction for a Supply Management category team or teams. This position will directly oversee the team's performance, including daily work direction, category strategy leadership, supplier performance evaluations, resource allocation, business planning, and the realization of company-wide initiatives within the work units represented.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy strategic initiatives to facilitate cross-business synergies across a rationalized set of global and regional preferred supplier partners.
- Champion and manage key strategic supplier contracts, ensuring commercial performance and strong supplier relationships.
- Review, approve, monitor, and report compliance with category agreements and strategies based on Supply Management (SM) policies.
- Present new planning tools, technical analysis, and procurement opportunities to senior management that align with SM strategic plans and cost reduction initiatives.
- Prepare and execute the annual value proposition for the owned spend, supporting execution with the business cross-functional teams.
- Champion Supplier Business Reviews with assigned suppliers and develop proactive risk mitigation strategies to ensure supply continuity.
- Manage employees and hold accountability for team performance, providing guidance and addressing resource and operational challenges to meet departmental plans and priorities.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (preferred).
Experience Requirements
- Typically requires 5+ years of related experience.
- Broad expertise in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Supplier Quality, S&OP, Negotiation, and Product Development.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a Supply Management department and staff members in successful support of business goals and plans.
- Proven track record as a strong problem solver, effective communicator, and leader with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Deep expertise in leading groups to reach consensus on realistic goals and objectives, and ability to prioritize those objectives effectively.
- Travel required: Up to 15%.
Preferred Experience
- 5+ years of professional negotiating experience in a global business environment.
- 5+ years of experience improving supplier performance across multiple manufacturing facilities.
- APQP experience.
- Demonstrated experience in Continuous Improvement (CI).
- Motorcycle riding experience and knowledge of Harley-Davidson motorcycles and accessories (preferred).
Supervisory Responsibility
- The position manages employees and is accountable for the performance and results of a team within Supply Management.
Working Conditions / Environment
- Primarily office-based with occasional travel as required by job responsibilities (up to 15%).
