Position Highlights

The University of Arizona School of Theatre, Film & Television invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Practice-Career Track, Writer and Producer (full-time, nontenure).

The successful candidate will be an industry professional with expertise in the creative and business aspects of contemporary film and television production. They will teach undergraduate students and demonstrate a commitment to nurturing diverse voices in media, contribute to the School's robust internship program, participate in service to the school, university, and greater community, and maintain an active career in the film and television industry. In doing so they will actively collaborate and contribute to the growth of a rising national film and television program.

Our faculty members also help to develop innovative approaches to enhancing student engagement, supporting our network of alumni, and expanding collaborations within the film and television industries.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the School with an assignment of 60% teaching; 20% service; 20% professional activities.
  • Teach 3 courses per semester which are aligned with candidate expertise and the programmatic needs of the school. Assigned courses may include Writing for Television, Writing the Short Screenplay, Writing the Feature Film, Screenwriting and Producing Capstones, International Film and TV Business, Professional Practices, and Producing 1 & 2.
  • Participate in school and college service committees as needed.
  • Actively collaborate and contribute to the growth of a rising national film and television program.
  • Contribute to the School's robust internship program.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to nurturing diverse voices
    in media.
Minimum Qualifications
  • B.A. degree in film and/or television or relevant field.
  • Professional expert with three or more years of recent film and/or television industry experience as a writer, producer, or creative executive.
  • University-level teaching experience in film/media or record of teaching professional workshops for recognized film organizations (e.g., Collab, Film Independent, Gotham Film and Media Institute).
  • Candidates with development, agency, or management experience will also be considered.
Preferred Qualifications

  • MA, MFA, or PhD in film and/or television.
  • Two or more years teaching undergraduate students.
  • Experience in web series development.
