Position Highlights The Department of Psychology at the University of Arizona is seeking an Assistant Professor of Practice to teach online and face-to-face undergraduate courses. The position is a 9-month, full-time (1.0 FTE) appointment; additional summer teaching opportunities may be available. The position is central to the teaching mission of the department and involves teaching courses during fall and spring semesters as well as expectations of professional development and service. Assistant Professor of Practice positions are ongoing career-track positions, with opportunities to advance in rank. Application review will begin in early January 2025, with a position start date as early as mid-March 2025.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Teach approximately 6 PSY courses per academic year (includes online and face-to-face courses) at the undergraduate level, including core undergraduate courses such as: PSY 101 (Intro to Psychology), 230 (Statistics), 300 (Cognitive Neuroscience) and 383 (Health), as well as other Psychology courses, as needed.
  • Participate in service activities that support the strategic plan of the Psychology Department; service roles include department, college, and university.
  • Participate in committees including those assigned by the Department Head, College, or University.
  • Participate in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • Help develop coursework consistent with department needs and initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Psychology, or related area.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching topics, including statistics, introductory psychology, health psychology, developmental psychology, and/or abnormal psychology at the undergraduate level.
  • College teaching experience in both online and face-to-face formats.
  • Experience teaching students with diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience with and knowledge of the field of teaching and learning.
  • Experience with and knowledgeable about technology specific to teaching.
  • Experience interacting effectively with faculty, staff, advisors, and administrators.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience contributing to teaching-related scholarship in higher education.
  • Knowledge of and inclusive teaching experience consistent with the mission and values of a Hispanic-Serving Institution.
  • Previous experience with curriculum development.
  • Experience teaching large (100+) undergraduate courses in online and face-to-face formats.
