The UCSD Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (CMM) is one of two basic science units in the School of Medicine where world-class researchers study fundamental cellular processes and pathways using a variety of techniques from classical genetics and fluorescence microscopy to high throughput genomics, systems biology, and crystallography. Our 37 faculty and over 200 postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, and research staff work on the cutting edge of biology, cutting across fields from basic biochemistry and genetics to genomics, systems biology and stem cell biology. Under supervision, the incumbent will assist the laboratory as directed. Duties will include assisting with the analysis of cancer and stem cells by microscopy (including Incucyte) and flow cytometry, organization of lab space, maintaining the cleanliness of lab, maintaining lab equipment, preparing buffers, media, and solutions, glassware washing and autoclaving, following and maintaining lab safety protocols. Assist with the analysis of cancer cell growth by IncuCyte imaging and FACS analysis.

In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for receiving and unpacking incoming material. Performs other duties as assigned.

• Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and two years of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences and one year of laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

• Ability to prepare solutions

• Ability to maintain laboratory supplies, keeping written records, and data collection

• Basic knowledge of basic chemistry and math required for preparing solutions.

• Skill and ability to operate various lab instruments

• Demonstrated experience in general laboratory housekeeping procedures including maintaining inventory, ordering supplies.

• Computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and web-based programs.

• Demonstrated ability to follow directions and pay attention to details.

• Ability to read and follow step wise assignments.

• Strong communication skills to effectively communicate with a diverse group of people within a laboratory setting.

• This position has funding for eight months.
