Description

The Director of Systems Engineering Operations will provide leadership, technical oversight, and management of the Systems Operations team, which includes our Engineering and Software teams and our technicians. The position is responsible to oversee the manufacturing aspects of our systems projects - to assign, plan, and manage the resources - coordinating this work with additional team leaders providing resources to these projects, including our Technical Physics Team and our Project Management Team. Additional responsibilities include developing and driving continuous improvement initiatives and quality control and safety procedures; implementing standardized engineering practices; interfacing, communicating, and collaborating with functional teams, stakeholders, and other departments as needed; managing costs and schedules; aligning operations activities with business objectives and strategic goals; and overseeing the performance, efficiency, and development of the Systems Operations team.

Responsibilities:



  • Manage, develop, and mentor staff, including reviewing and refining staffing plans and resources.
  • Oversee and direct all aspects of engineering, software, and operations activities related to system manufacturing, project execution, and delivery, to ensure quality systems are delivered as committed and within budget.
  • Resource planning, tracking, and optimization.
  • Manage multiple operational and engineering tasks and projects simultaneously, providing support as needed.
  • Drive continuous improvement by implementing value add/value engineering projects to achieve annual cost reduction goals.
  • Work closely with the project engineering team and the quality department as needed to ensure products meet customer and quality requirements.



Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:



  • 10 years of progressive engineering responsibility; minimum 5 years of direct engineering management experience.
  • Strong leadership, management, team building, and mentoring skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to drive change and lead large teams to meet aggressive goals.
  • Excellent communication and presentation/public speaking skills.
  • Outstanding organizational skills, including ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously; demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Successful track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Significant experience across engineering, technology, manufacturing, and product development disciplines.
  • Experience implementing process improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent written/oral communication, interpersonal and talent development skills.
  • Ability to conduct technological analyses and research.
  • Experience in the nuclear industry preferred.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or related field).
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive engineering responsibility.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct engineering management experience.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES



  • 15-20 direct employees and contractors.



ADDITIONAL SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS



  • Ability to operate within designated time, budget and resource parameters while mitigating risk.
  • Solid project management skills.
  • Understanding of physics, design, procurement, and manufacturing process limitations.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a technical environment.
  • Green to Black Belt Six Sigma or Lean expert certification preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting/finance.
  • Working knowledge of SAP or similar ERP/MRP system.
  • Hands-on experience facilitating global, cross-cultural business teams.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and presentation ability.
  • Possess a cooperative and team focused attitude.
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated data and fact-based problem-solving skills.



CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS



  • Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred.
  • Certifications in Lean and/or Six Sigma preferred.
