Position Highlights |
The School of Plant Sciences is seeking applications for a Wet Lab II position. This position will work in the Arizona Genomics Institute. The successful candidate will be integrated into a small group of experienced researchers and work regularly on nucleic acid extraction and occasionally on sequencing library preparation projects. The main job duties will consist of: plan and conduct laboratory research, operate and maintain equipment, all with some supervisor guidance. They will interact with internal and external researchers, coworkers with different backgrounds (e.g. informatics) and thus, experience in translating concepts between disciplines is required.

Duties & Responsibilities |
- Receive, store, and track incoming samples, grind tissue.
- Extract nucleic acids using multiple protocols. Perform quality control with different instruments and methods.
- Prepare sequencing libraries for long- and short-read sequencing platforms and execute other molecular biology lab protocols.
- Maintain detailed records, summarize the results in reports, and assist Principal Investigator with disseminating research findings in meetings and as manuscripts in scientific journals.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Good Knowledge of biology, genetics, or related field, or 3+ years of experience in a molecular biology laboratory.
- Comfortable working independently once cleared by supervisor.
- Basic molecular biology techniques, including pipetting and DNA and RNA isolation and recombinant DNA techniques.
- Proficiency in using single- and multi-channel pipette, making solutions, working with hazardous substances (liquid nitrogen, ethanol, chloroform, strong acids & bases).
- Proficiency in taking notes, interpreting, reporting, and presenting results at meetings and conferences.
- Demonstrated capacity to understand problematic samples and hypothesize troubleshooting procedures.

Minimum Qualifications |
- High school diploma
- 3 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous employment in a research laboratory performing molecular biology techniques

Preferred Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree
- Previous experience in handling DNA and RNA for modern genomics methods.
- Experience handling a multifaceted workload, being able to stay organized with notes, reports, etc.
