Position Summary
The Assistant Vice President for Interdisciplinary Research will promote interdisciplinary research and team development; promote global research partnerships and international engagement; and promote faculty recognition.

Detailed Position Information
The Assistant Vice President for Interdisciplinary Research will have the following responsibilities:

Promoting interdisciplinary research and team development by supporting major interdisciplinary research collaborations associated with the life sciences from a faculty perspective, coordinating with departments to leverage existing expertise, and collaborating with the ASSIST office to mentor emerging research teams, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.

Promoting global research partnerships and international engagement by leading and managing global research collaborations and fostering strategic relationships with global academic networks, working to expand UA's impact and strengthen partnerships worldwide, driving cross-border academic exchanges and joint projects enhancing UA's international research presence.

Promoting faculty recognition by establishing programs to recognize and reward faculty for research excellence acknowledged by external agencies and championing faculty achievements at local, national, and international levels elevating UA's research profile, including leading activities related to the President's Faculty Research Award and corresponding Faculty Research Day and leading faculty honorific award processes.

Minimum Qualifications
Must be a current tenured full professor at The University of Alabama to be considered for this additional administrative appointment representing approximately 20% effort.

PhD in life science or related fields; extensive existing collaborative research relationships with global academic networks; evidence of national and international academic reputation; successful and sustained record of achieving prominent levels of research-based funding as a PI; existing externally funded research in life sciences and the desire to maintain funding and a vibrant scholastic record while serving in this role.

Preferred Qualifications
Recognition as a Distinguished University Research Professor; demonstrated experience providing vision and leadership to advance major research initiatives; demonstrated excellence leading collaborative teams of interdisciplinary scientists and researchers.
