Meltwater is in search of an experienced Tax Manager to oversee tax matters in the US and Canada, including outsourced federal and state tax compliance. The Tax Manager will take the lead on the US tax provision, and will collaborate with business and sales teams on local sales and use tax issues. Working closely with the VP of Tax & Treasury and Tax Accounting Manager in the Netherlands, the Tax Manager will play a vital role in the global tax function. Opportunities for growth include transfer pricing, internal restructurings, financing, and tax automation and technology.

What You'll Do:

  • Oversee US tax compliance, managing service providers and ensuring the accurate review and filing of federal, state, and local income tax returns.

  • Review and suggest improvements to income tax provision work papers prepared by external providers, with the goal of reducing reliance on outsourcing over time.

  • Assess sales tax returns using Avalara, enhancing collaboration between Avalara, finance teams, and sales teams.

  • Take proactive measures regarding notices, extensions, and payments, maintaining meticulous documentation and adhering to deadlines.

  • Contribute insights and experience on US tax developments, transfer pricing, cross-border transactions, and strategic planning initiatives.

  • Lead sales and use tax compliance efforts, providing expertise on rates and system implementation.

  • Resolve discrepancies with tax authorities and assist in responding to audits.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in tax, finance or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Proven ability to work independently and take initiative. This role operates autonomously within the region, with immediate stakeholders and peers located globally. Strong remote networking skills and a proactive "get things done" attitude are essential.

  • Be a self-starter. See what needs to be done and actively identify and tackle issues to ensure the tax function continues to support the growth of the company.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills, with a solid understanding of financial and tax accounting principles. Attention to detail is paramount.

  • High level of self-motivation and a drive to continually enhance systems, structures, and processes within the tax domain.

  • Capacity to effectively manage multiple competing priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Strong knowledge of income tax accounting, including familiarity with U.S. federal and state income tax laws and concepts.

  • Willingness to learn and develop expertise in other cross-functional tax matters such as transfer pricing or international tax.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word, with the ability to utilize related functionalities.

  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, multitask, and deliver results independently under tight deadlines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Willingness to embrace the best of both worlds with our hybrid work schedule. This role requires you to be in the office 2-3 days a week.

  • The ability to legally work in the country of hire is required for this position.

  • Base Salary of $143,700-$169,000 USD per year + 10% quarterly bonus subject to the terms of the applicable bonus plan.

  • Total compensation range for this position: $143,700-$185,900 USD per year.
