(Remote, Full-Time) NexGen Technologies, Inc. is looking for a GIS Systems Engineer-Windows Platform to work on a large and dynamic GIS infrastructure supporting critical federal government applications and programs. The role focuses on system-level management, troubleshooting, and integrating GIS functionality into the organization's IT infrastructure. This individual will be required to work closely with members of NexGen and client's teams, including but not limited to subject matter experts, technical staff, and project managers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Design, develop, and maintain automation scripts to support daily operations and maintenance of an enterprise GIS system and streamline workflows.
- Monitor and troubleshoot GIS system performance, and resolve issues with GIS applications and services.
- Analyze system logs and performance metrics to identify and resolve infrastructure-related problems in GIS environments.
- Collaborate with system administrators and other team members to optimize GIS infrastructure performance and reliability.
- Collaborate with IT teams to integrate GIS platforms with Active Directory, group policies, and network configurations.
- Apply and promote good software engineering practices such as test automation, modularization, simplification.
- Develop written technical documentation (such as metadata, training materials, workflow diagrams, white papers, etc.).
- Collaborate with the staff to identify, address, and mitigate security risks and ensure compliance with the relevant regulatory requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and/or PowerShell, with working knowledge of JavaScript, JSON, XML, Web services, and ArcGIS API.
- Professional knowledge of concepts and principles of geospatial data management, and technical problem-solving skills related to geospatial software, and integrating GIS functionalities into larger IT systems.
- Familiarity with ESRI's ArcGIS software including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Web Application Builder and Experience Builder Developer Edition desired.
- Familiarity with Azure cloud-based GIS solutions and infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Windows Server Administration, Active Directory, and networking fundamentals.
- Knowledge of IT best practices for system security, backup, and disaster recovery planning.
- Understanding of Agile development practices and tools, such as DevOps and version control systems (e.g. Git).
Additional Requirements:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate and resolve complex technical issues, such as system errors, configuration conflicts, or data integrity challenges.
- The successful candidate will also be able to pass background screening prior to employment.
- US Citizenship, or legal permanent residence, or US work authorization with minimum 3 years of continuous US presence is required due to federal contract requirements.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Business with at least 5 years of experience specifically in a GIS-related role.
