Summary of Position

The Waste Management Technician will be responsible for ensuring the proper disposal and management of waste materials. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 5am - 1:30pm

Essential Functions

  • Must maintain operational compliance with US and international regulatory agencies and guidelines (i.e. FDA, EU, HC, TGA, PIC/S, ISO, USP, NRC, cGMP, etc.).
  • Ensure a safe and quality working environment through training, awareness, communication to management and compliance with company SOP's.
  • Conducting assigned EHS inspections per established SOP's, completing testing and other tasks as assigned and submit/maintain required database entry and form filing systems.
  • Perform assigned department equipment preventive maintenance tasks and reporting activities.
  • Demonstrates an ability to lead in a fast paced environment in regards to production goals, standards, mindsets and behaviors both on and off the production floor.
  • Ensure the maintenance and cleanliness of department, premises and equipment.
  • Perform prescribed waste activities (transportation, storage, disposal, inventory, etc...) for all in-coming radioactive and non-radioactive waste from facility buildings and transport to building 500/250 for storage processing and final disposition according to site procedures.
  • Utilize assigned equipment and SOP's for analysis of liquid waste effluents, loose contamination surveys and radiation level surveys.
  • Assist with the Pharmacy lead reclaim functions by managing DIS and processing of EFG and returned safes with sources intact.
  • Process and dispose of site EFG materials and rejected lots in accordance with applicable plant policy and QA Department policies.
  • Identify to immediate supervision any potential non-compliance or hazardous condition issues within environmental and waste operations to ensure compliance with company policy/procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform specified activities for collection of samples or data as required by departmental procedures.
  • Operate, calibrate and maintain (as prescribed by procedures) assigned EHS department analytical testing equipment per documented procedures and/or manufacturers recommendations.
  • Transport radioactive and hazardous wastes from site waste docks and pickup locations to appropriate locations within buildings 500 and 250.
  • Handle and manage spent radioactive targets within existing bunker systems.
  • Comply with EPA, NRC and DOT regulations for shipping of waste materials by utilizing company SOP's to prepare containers and associated paperwork for shipment.
  • Serve as chemical/radiological/biohazard emergency spill technicians following procedures outlined in the site Emergency Response Plans and SOP's.
  • Enter required information into assigned databases for waste tracking, audits, inspections and other assigned data systems.
  • Perform tasks and activities to process and release waste water to the MSD sewer system according to the SOP and approved work instructions.
  • Prepare material, perform required testing and prepare paperwork per DOT regulations and plant procedures, for the return of casks to other facilities.
  • Perform "free release" of waste materials from the site according to applicable regulations and approved work instructions.
  • Ensure all assigned training is completed on time.
  • Basic computer skills, Hazardous waste handling, Ability to use power equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.
  • Operate processing equipment in the department.
  • Operate powered industrial truck equipment.
  • Perform safety inspections.
  • Serve as an active member of the site Emergency Response Team performing subject matter expert activities commensurate with this job position.


Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required. Preference for college level course work in applied science or similar field.
  • 3 or more years of relevant experience required.
  • Preferred experience with handling industrial waste and/or compliance with industry environmental regulations.
  • Proven high performer capable of meeting or exceeding goals on time as well as meeting objectives of the team.
  • Strong motivation and ability to achieve work goals and quantifiable business results
  • Basic computer skills, Hazardous waste handling, Ability to use power equipment.


Working Conditions:



  • Willingness to work in plant producing radioactive materials and requiring all employees to participate in safety programs designed to minimize potential and/or actual exposure levels.
  • Responsibilities include the ability to lift up to 70 pounds, kneeling, crouching, twisting the upper body, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching, must be able to physically negotiate stairs and evacuation ladders with or without accommodation, wear and operate safety equipment, enter vessels, and inspect equipment.
  • Material handling devices (e.g., hand truck, fork truck, and conveyors) are used when possible, however, use of proper lifting and movement techniques is necessary to prevent injury.
  • Must be willing to wear a variety of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and hearing protection as needed.
  • May be required to sit or stand for long periods of 8+ hours a day while performing duties.
  • Must possess good hand-eye coordination; close attention to detail is required.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors with exposure to mechanical/moving parts, hazards including corrosive, flammable and toxic material, dust, dirt, odors, and irritants.
  • Willingness to complete safety training within allotted timeframes, and work in a team-based environment.
  • Must be able to work outside of regular work hours, including off shift, weekend, and holiday work as business needs require.
