Building Services provide full maintenance and repair services for all UNC facilities and ensure the proper operation of those facilities in support of the UNC mission of teaching, research and public service. Building Services supports more than 400 campus buildings with approximately 18 million gross square feet of space. The teams that provide quality maintenance, repair and construction services that support the teaching, research, and public service mission of the University include Campus Maintenance, EMCS, Facilities Operations Support, Housing Support, HVAC Systems, and Life Safety Services. Housing Support is an effective team of employees providing maintenance and repair services, including a safe and secure environment for the 9000 students living in 37 residence halls and 700 apartments. Trade skills include cabinetmaking, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, electronics, sheet metal, roofing, painting and HVAC. We identify, estimate, plan and complete minor facility renovation projects via our own Housing Support internal shops, Facilities Services Construction Shops, and/or private contractors. We provide year-round, 24-hour customer service to our resident students and Housing staff. Housing Support also conducts all scheduled facility maintenance inspections within its facilities. This unit is the primary point of contact for the residence halls and dispatches the request to the appropriate shop.

A SIGN-ON BONUS OF $4,668 IS AVAILABLE FOR THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT OF THIS POSITION PAID IN 2 INSTALLMENTS WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF HIRE:
$2,334 WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE DATE & $2,334 12 MONTHS AFTER HIRE DATE.

Performs preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment, installs and repairs electrical systems and components from the load side of the service transformer to the last device. Responds to daily emergency calls as applicable and keeps lead person and supervisor well informed of daily work progress.

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification. Optional Guidelines: experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Demonstrated journey level experience in the electrical trade. Ability to read and interpret complex schematic drawings/blueprints on building systems and equipment; and ability to report to work in support of essential (mandatory) University operations even when adverse weather or other emergency conditions, such as a public health emergency, may require the University to close. Must possess a valid NC Driver's License or be able to obtain one prior to start date.

Progressive experience in the electrical field, ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and blueprints, and experience working under NFPA70E requirements and the National Electrical Code.

Ability to work on hands and knees for extended periods of time; move objects weighing at least 50 lbs. with or without a reasonable accommodation; climb and work from ladders, boom lifts and scaffolding up to 60 feet high; and ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE) required for the specific job, including but not limited to safety harnesses, fall protection, respirators, face masks or face shields, protective gloves, and safety shoes.

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time (more than 20 hours a week) employee are eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working more than 20 hours and less than 40 hours per week).

This SHRA Sign-on Bonus is contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire. All recipients must sign the Pay Back Agreement form.
