MANAGER OF PEOPLE (include number of direct reports)

OR INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTOR:

This position is responsible for managing 1-3 people who work within the scope of EH&S.

JOB SCOPE: This position is responsible for EH&S for both Tenneco and our joint venture with United Piston Rings (UPR). The EHS Manager is responsible for the development, implementation and support of the Tenneco and UPR safety and training programs. This is a high demand position.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Developing, implementing and maintaining an Environmental, Health & Safety Program that will allow the Manitowoc facility to operate in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
  • Implementation and maintenance of the ISO 14000 Environmental Health and Safety Management System including system and document control.
  • Preparing and filing all legal reports on a timely basis (i.e.: DNR reporting, EAP reporting, OSHA log, OSHA reporting requirements, etc.).
  • Control and disposal of all hazardous material.
  • Preparation of applications for permits to install, operate or modify pollution control systems.
  • Implement innovative waste handling and treatment systems to achieve minimization goals and reduce cost while being legally and environmentally compliant.
  • Develop and present training programs to acquaint plant personnel with chemical hazards; enable them to effectively carry out safety procedures, and select, maintain and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Inspect and approve all safety devices.
  • Maintain all auditor and compliance training.
  • Responsible for effective application of established safety procedures, utilization of safety equipment and devices, and to investigate and eliminate hazardous conditions and unsafe practices.
  • Research, plan and formulate new and revised safety programs and rules. Prepare recommendations and implement those which have been approved.
  • Communicate all Environmental and Safety issues in a timely manner.
  • Serve as principal contact to and for the Corporate EHS (CEHS) group with respect to EHS issues that affect the facilities within our product group.
  • Lead the site Safety Committee and manage the ongoing initiatives of the Safety Committee.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate and facilitate in small groups.
  • Develop, maintain, and distribute a wide variety of plant safety and environmental metrics.



EDUCATION:



  • Bachelors degree in EH&S and 5 -10 years experience in the Safety & Environmental field dealing with environmental regulations and OSHA and ANSI standards.
  • Specialized training in Safety & Environmental regulations is required



EXPERIENCE:



  • Experience/background with EH&S environmental international management systems (ISO, OHSAS, etc.)
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to exchange information and interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes and related safety devices.
  • Thorough understanding of safety policy.
  • Familiar with root cause analysis and problem solving techniques.
  • Ability to read, interpret and write documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of customers or employees.
  • Analytical abilities necessary to plan and prioritize own work, complete work on schedule and maintain required records and logs.
  • Ability to establish and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience in a leadership role; guiding and directing a team towards a common goal.
  • Able to learn new concepts, processes, etc. quickly and utilize them within a team. Ability to facilitate and guide a large number of hourly and salary employees.
  • Able to utilize various computer programs including Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Able to submit all appropriate local, state and Federal reports for environmental and safety. Includes reports to Manitowoc local government, OSHA, EPA, and Wisconsin DNR
  • Ability to guide local environmental contractors to assist in governmental reporting.
  • Knowledge of the principles of Constraint Management.

  • Must be able to lift, push, and/or pull up to 60 pounds occasionally.


  • Must be able to make occasional trips to manufacturing sites and customers by air and by automobile.
  • Able to be on call 24/7 for plant issues.
  • Able and willing to work around chemicals, coolants, oils, moving equipment, and electrical power.
  • Ability to sit for an extended period of time (2 or more hours).
  • Ability to clearly give and receive information through verbal (speaking & hearing) and written forms.
  • Ability to closely examine and visually inspect equipment and data.
  • Ability to walk and move about, stoop and bend, and climb (ascend and descend) ladders.
  • Works in all areas of the plant where dust, noise, odors typical. And extreme temperatures of the manufacturing environment exist.
