The Four Corners Fossil-Fuel Generating plant is located 18 miles west of Farmington, a community of about 40,000, in the northwest region of New Mexico.

Because the Four Corners Fossil-Fuel Generating plant is on the Navajo Reservation, Navajo preference will apply in the job selection.


Summary

As the Supervisor of Engineering, you will oversee engineering services and project execution at our Four Corners Power Plant, ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance with industry standards. You may also be responsible for business development activities, including engaging with new and existing customers, preparing proposals, negotiating contracts, and driving project profitability. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and business acumen to support both internal operations and external partnerships.

Project & Business Development: Identify and develop new business opportunities, engaging with customers to provide tailored engineering solutions.

Proposal & Contract Management: Prepare and present proposals, negotiate contracts, and ensure projects align with budget and profitability targets.

Team Leadership & Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to engineering staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with operations, maintenance, and project teams to align engineering services with business goals.

Process Optimization: Implement best practices to enhance engineering efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.

Minimum Requirements

Supervisor, Engineering | Four Corners Power Generation



  • A four-year bachelor's degree in engineering or related applied science discipline (see approved list) from an ABET accredited institution, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or an ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA)
  • Five (5) years of experience in engineering positions.
  • Broad knowledge of engineering disciplines related to electric utilities.
  • Must possess excellent people management, communication (oral and written), and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of contract development, negotiation strategies, and proven success in attaining customer satisfaction.


Approved Engineering degrees:

Materials Science/Metallurgy, Physics, Chemistry, Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Computer Science, Environmental, Chemical, Structural.

*A degree in Engineering Technology is not considered an automatic equivalent for a B.S. degree in Engineering. A review of the degree program curriculum must be completed by the Engineering Career Path Review Board to determine equivalency level.

Major Accountabilities

1) Supervises department engineering work to ensure it is technically sound and cost effective and all projects meet schedule and budget commitments.

2) Develops plans and proposals that meet the customer's needs, are profitable, and maintain an appropriate level of risk for the company.

3) Monitors expenditures of unit or area of responsibility ensuring prudent use of company money and resources.

4) Maintains a technically competent department to meet the needs of our customers.

- Hires, supervises, evaluates, rewards and develops a multi-discipline staff.

5) Provides consulting expertise as needed.

- Maintains communication with industry and EPRI.

- Investigates new technologies.

6) Prepares detailed list and cost estimates.

- Ensures plant documents are appropriately maintained.

Role Type

Hybrid: Employees in hybrid roles work both in their home offices (virtually) and alongside their colleagues (in person).

In order for employees to build strong relationships and to promote meaningful in-person interactions, hybrid employees are expected to work about 40% of their time in-person at an APS or other (non-home office) location.

*Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).

*Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.

CIP Requirement:

This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position. A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements. In addition, this position requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access.
