Senior Water Resources Engineer - Puget Sound Region

DEA's Water Resources team in the Puget Sound region is hiring for a Senior Water Resources Engineer to work on a variety of assignments related to habitat restoration, fish passage, floodplain analysis, and stormwater management. This position will support projects throughout the Puget Sound Region, with flexibility for hybrid or office-based work in locations such as Bellevue, Seattle, Tacoma, or Everett.

Career development trajectories for this role include task management, project management, and staff supervision. In-house and vendor-supplied training are available to support both technical and managerial skill development.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work in a highly flexible, team-oriented environment and contribute to the growth of our Water Resources Practice.
  • Plan and design a wide range of water resources systems and facilities, including hydraulic analyses for stream crossings and evaluations for fish passage and scour.
  • Lead the evaluation and design of stormwater and surface water management systems.
  • Serve as a task lead and engineer of record, collaborating with a team of support professionals including drafters, EITs, GIS technicians, and technical editors.
  • Actively manage task-specific scope, schedule, and budget. (Project management experience is a plus.)
  • Apply knowledge of local, state, and federal stormwater management and waterway design standards.
  • Mentor and coach entry-level staff.
  • Interface with clients and public agencies as needed.
  • Support business development efforts (e.g., engagement in professional organizations, proposal preparation, participation in interviews, and visibility efforts).

Basic Qualifications:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
  • 10+ years of experience applying hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tools
  • Experience leading project teams in data collection, report writing, and preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for river, estuary, and shoreline restoration projects

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with aquatic resource permits, transportation infrastructure, and construction support services
  • Project management and business development experience is beneficial
  • Masters Degree with a focus on hydrology and hydraulics, or related field
