Summary
Coordinates and observes work for general conformance of contract documents. Coordinates and observes the work of construction contractors assigned to perform construction contract administration and oversight work at NYPA or Customer facilities. Ensures that quality workmanship is maintained at all times and in accordance with applicable construction procedures, methods, codes and specifications. Projects will include electrical, civil, mechanical, instrumentation & control engineering disciplines. Provide direct oversight of contractors and onsite management of construction projects (for projects at NYPA sites only). A Construction Engineer may have background from one of the engineering disciplines. This postinghas a preference towards and is prioritizing candidates with electrical engineering backgrounds to best meet business needs. In addition, this posting involves expectations for the successful candidate to become a clearance holder.
Responsibilities
- Provide construction engineer function in support of a limited range of construction projects, and operations and maintenance activities.
- Perform site visits to complete field observations, condition assessments, and equipment evaluations and develop basic technical recommendations. Support occasional emergency response, including outside of normal business hours.
- Independently coordinate cross disciplinary activities for the successful development and execution of projects.
- Select and apply codes, standards and procedures to work tasks appropriately.
- Perform inspections and evaluations to ensure engineering requirements and Authority specifications are satisfied.
- Provide support and review in the development of the constructability issues on project engineering documents and submittals.
- Working knowledge to be able to document in-progress construction work to ensure compliance with the contract documents, specifications, permits, and drawings.
- Ability to read, and interpret construction drawings and specifications to determine if the contractor is meeting the engineer of records design intent
- Ability to prepare a construction management daily construction observation field report documenting contractor progress
- Represent the Authority at industry conferences committees or task forces
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Competency in the construction of electrical, mechanical, structural, and water systems specific to the electric utility industry or building construction/ renovation industry.
- Fundamental knowledge of electric utility or commercial and industrial facilities and their various systems and components.
- Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Collaborative and team-oriented with ability to build relationships with vendors and stakeholders.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations, and complete specifications, scopes of work, reports, and interdisciplinary design packages.
- Ability to coordinate the technical and commercial aspects of projects.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
- Working experience with Procore or Primavera preferred.
- Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of five (5) years of related work experience preferred.
- New York State Engineer in Training certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Daily inspection of work areas throughout facility/Project Site
- Travel within New York State will likely be required. Posting to a remote work site may be a possibility.
- Willingness to enter confined spaces and climb/scale certain equipment is required
- Work during off-hours and hours beyond typical 40-hour work week may be required.

The estimated salary range for this position is: $90,000 - $123,200. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates' relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
