Clinical Value Analysis Coordinator

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Clinical resource who provides leadership for the Value Analysis Committee and various sub-committees across Bryan Health and Affiliate Hospitals (Affiliates) to identify and implement non-salary expense reduction initiatives. Accountable for investigating and evaluating contracting opportunities and implementing product utilization strategies and/or conversions that achieve quantifiable cost savings for the organization and Affiliates as measured by supply expense as a percentage of net revenue. Collaborates with Bryan Health leadership and staff across all disciplines to define, promote, communicate and implement identified cost reduction strategies and standardization opportunities system-wide. Provides support for education and research programs and will function as a liaison with health care professionals, vendors and group purchasing organizations regarding health care value analysis, cost reduction and projected and realized impact on clinical and financial outcomes. Utilizes a variety of software systems and techniques both within and beyond the organization to identify best practice patterns and identify opportunities to promote positive patient outcomes while reducing expenses.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:



  1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
  2. *Maximizes utilization of Vizient and Mid-America Services Solutions tools and contracts to identify savings opportunities.
  3. *Serves as a resource to all disciplines, system wide committees and Affiliate Hospitals to promote standardization and cost reduction strategies.
  4. *Accountable for achieving specific financial outcomes for cost reduction and standardization opportunities system wide.
  5. *Serves as a liaison among supply chain, administration, clinical practice, finance, infection control, risk management, educational resources, clinical resource management and affiliate hospitals. Accomplishes this by developing a monthly agenda for the Value Analysis committee meetings and facilitating report outs by sub-committees; articulating and presenting data, information and ideas in a clear and concise manner; and developing and completing monthly reports to identify opportunities by area and financial impact of initiatives.
  6. *Coordinates standardization opportunities system wide by serving as a liaison for all organizations within the system on product selection and standardization opportunities.
  7. Performs data extraction and prepares financial impact analysis for supply and equipment initiatives through coordination with Supply Chain personnel and end-users.
  8. Coordinates with Hospital educators, vendor representatives and end users to implement education needed for new products and equipment.
  9. Facilitates the communication between vendors, clinical staff, and key stakeholders to achieve compliance and acceptance of new products. Performs follow-up audits on implemented items and determines areas for improvement.
  10. *Works on complex issues including analysis of physician preference items and serves as the expert clinical resource on the Supply Chain team tasked with obtaining supplies that support the delivery of quality patient care at an affordable cost.
  11. *Plans, develops materials for, and facilitates multi-disciplinary Value Analysis team meetings with the objective of identifying, implementing, and tracking performance of cost reduction initiatives.
  12. Provides ongoing customer service to assigned departments.
  13. Introduces and evaluates new products, programs and technologies that enhance patient outcomes.
  14. *Regularly evaluates direct and indirect patient care expenses and identifies ways to reduce costs as needed; brings innovative ideas to the institution that facilitate cost effective delivery of patient care.
  15. Consults with Best Practice Committees and other clinical departments to provide direction and support for implementing practice related changes.
  16. Contributes to the development and achievement of hospital and department goals and strategic plans.
  17. *Initiates/leads collaboration efforts with department managers and others regarding changes and issues for the improvement of patient care services and standardization opportunities.
  18. Observes staff for safe clinical practice and communicates findings to manager or other appropriate personnel.
  19. Uses effective interpersonal skills to coach, inform, negotiate, solve problems and resolve conflicts as they arise; actively exhibits a positive image of Bryan Health to staff and the community.
  20. Recognizes and shares knowledge regarding health care trends, legislation and public policy that affects supply chain and patient care.
  21. Coordinates with the Supply Chain team, internal product experts and vendor representatives to identify clinically acceptable substitutes during periods of product shortages.
  22. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  23. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
  24. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.



REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  1. Knowledge of the principles and practices of materials/supply chain management.
  2. Knowledge of the value analysis process and supply expense management principles.
  3. Knowledge of accounting and financial reconciliation methods and practices.
  4. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
  5. Skill in contract evaluation, negotiation and conflict resolution.
  6. Ability to analyze complex data sets and translate data into actionable plans.
  7. Ability to analyze problems, propose resolutions and enact timely corrections/interventions.
  8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, medical personnel, physicians and community representatives.
  9. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
  10. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.
  11. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.
  12. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  13. Ability to work independently to identify opportunities for the Supply Chain team.
  14. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Associate degree in a related healthcare field required with Master's degree in nursing or business preferred. Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience required. Minimum of two (2) years' experience performing supply chain and/or cost analysis activities preferred.
