Software Engineer (Expert)

We are currently seeking an Expert-Level Software Engineer to join our team in Chantilly, VA. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a high-impact modernization effort, leveraging cutting-edge technologies and cloud platforms to build and enhance secure, scalable systems.

Position Overview

As an expert software engineer, you will be part of a talented development team supporting a dynamic customer environment. You'll play a key role in designing, building, and optimizing systems that are vital to national missions. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise, particularly with Python and Angular, and be comfortable working across both client-side and server-side web frameworks. This role also demands a strong foundation in cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS, as well as experience with continuous integration and delivery pipelines.

You will collaborate closely with team members and mission partners to refine and implement system features, ensuring high-quality and secure code is deployed to meet rapidly evolving requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain advanced software systems using Python and Angular.
  • Work across client and server-side web frameworks to support full-stack development.
  • Leverage cloud infrastructure and services (primarily AWS) for scalable, resilient solutions.
  • Collaborate with mission partners and internal teams to refine system features and architecture.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Git, Jenkins, and Nexus.
  • Optimize and debug systems to ensure peak performance and stability.
  • Support testing efforts, including unit and integration testing.
  • Work with both relational and non-relational databases and manage data pipelines.
  • Utilize infrastructure as code tools like Terraform and CloudFormation for system provisioning.
  • Integrate analytics tools and support data engineering initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related technical discipline
    (or 2 additional years of specialized experience with a Bachelor's degree; 6 years of additional experience in lieu of a degree)
  • Strong hands-on experience with Python and Angular
  • Proficiency with CI/CD tools such as Git, Jenkins, Puppet, and Nexus
  • Excellent debugging and performance optimization skills
  • Experience in unit/integration testing
  • Strong knowledge of AWS services, including EC2, CloudFormation, Terraform, Lambda, Auto-Scaling, CloudWatch, DynamoDB, and S3
  • Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch
  • Familiarity with both relational and non-relational databases
  • Experience working with data engineering or analytics tools

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in an Agile team environment
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills
