We're the industry leader in direct-to-consumer life insurance, offering streamlined coverage directly to individuals, bypassing traditional agent models. Role Overview: This position will lead the technical operations of NYL Direct New Business and Underwriting Platform, working with Accenture's ALIP and RGA's AURA - two highly complex, proprietary software platforms that handle mission-critical functions for life insurance processes.We are seeking a highly skilled technical expert with extensive experience in managing complex software development workflows and rules engines. Candidate will provide interactions between the partners for vendor support for all integrations related to application intake, the underwriting workbench and rules engine. They will support deployments for enhancements on a regular cadence, and version updates as needed. What You'll Do:
- Own the integration strategy between ALIP, AURA, and legacy systems, ensuring seamless communication, data integrity, and optimized workflows.
- The candidate must be able to interpret XML, understanding how ALIP and AURA ingest work, process rules, utilize look up tables and ultimately integrate with other legacy systems.
- Possess understanding of NYL Direct production and model mainframe system tables, and how they impact ALIP and AURA.
- As a technical expert, propose new workflow ideas, and develop improvements in the workflow to increase productivity and harden the Platform.
- The candidate must possess a full and complete understanding of all technical aspects of the ALIP and AURA Platform, administer changes, troubleshoot issues and configure changes for evolving business needs recommended by the user base, or based on strategic initiatives, including other toolsets as needed.
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues within both ALIP and AURA, always ensuring production stability and workflow efficiency.
- Oversee the entire ALIP and AURA lifecycle, from backlog management to hands-on development and enhancement, while leading cross-functional collaboration to align with evolving business needs.
- Own the ALIP and AURA backlogs, refining and prioritizing open issues with a focus on maximizing business value. Maintain a holistic view of interdependencies between ALIP, AURA, and other platform components.
- Lead technical discussions and provide subject-matter expertise on all aspects of ALIP and AURA. Review technical approaches and make decisions on system configuration and architecture.
- Write business and technical requirements and configure changes in ALIP and AURA for requested enhancements and small bug fixes. Communicate with business sponsors to ensure enhancements and upgrades are completely understood before implementing changes, including writing release notes.
- Lead ALIP stand up when needed, including agendas and meeting notes, and other meetings as required. Attend AURA standup when necessary.
- Represent the New Business Application Intake team in various forums and interdepartmental collaboration such as the PI event and the Scrum of Scrums.
- Work with other agile teams when Direct initiatives require interaction between systems.
- Perform smoke tests for night and weekend releases, security patching and other deployments that may impact the Platform.
- Manage the teams' incidents through Service Now, working with platform partners Accenture and RGA, as well as internal teams, through to resolution.
- Manage the offshore quality assurance team, including regular oversight of the regression suite and attending QA team stand-ups as needed to provide oversight and guidance.
- Ensure reporting on development efforts being completed by other members of the technical staff, to deliver the expected business value and coordinate UAT efforts with other business partners.
- Create, use and manage control reports and analyze results from data mining to provide insight to upper management for decision making and ad hoc analysis.

What you'll bring:
- Bachelor's Degree and/or 10+ years in a leadership role overseeing configurable, real-time applications in a highly complex enterprise environment
- Expert knowledge of ALIP and AURA Platforms with an in-depth understanding of ALIP and AURA platforms, including all service integrations, and their impact on the broader life insurance ecosystem. Experience in system-level troubleshooting and optimization in production environments
- Expertise in writing complex SQL queries, using Toad or similar tools, to troubleshoot, optimize, and extract insights from large datasets. Work with program management, Life Insurance terminology and concepts, and understanding Business Process Management (BPM) is required
- Deep understanding of life insurance processes (such as Underwriting, New Business, Claims, and Policy administration) and the ability to design technical solutions that address complex business challenges
- Ability to communicate with the various users throughout the operation to indicate when changes are needed to the system, or even for "procedures" document modifications
- Able to provide solutions to system issues and to maximize productivity working directly with business partners and existing agile teams
- Leadership & Strategy: Proven ability to lead and mentor technical teams, prioritize complex requirements, and define and drive long-term technical strategy
- Ability to prioritize enhancement requests based on business value and ensure that all strategic initiatives are delivered in a timely manner.
- Ability and willingness to drive work and manage multiple, high-priority tasks in a fast-paced demanding environment, with a sense of urgency
- Ability to research and develop new technical workflows or troubleshoot production issues and make recommendations for the improvement of existing processes, to gain efficiency and improve productivity
- Ability to lead meetings and maintain open communication as Project Manager on assigned technology solutions including technical writing
- Ability to work with Microsoft tools, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint to streamline analysis, and provide fully developed requirements documents
- Knowledge of Jira for backlog and using that information for capacity analysis
