What Your Job Will Be Like:

Organization 10512, Payroll Services, is currently seeking a Team Lead, Business Management to join their team!

The selected candidate will support represented staff members with payroll processes, questions, guidelines, and understanding regulations. They will also be responsible as the functional lead running pay; plan, organize, and process weekly/bi-weekly/monthly payroll per policies and procedures to ensure payroll is processed accurately and timely. This includes garnishments, special allowances, retroactive payments, benefit accounting, absences, taxes and other payroll related items.

This role will work under the guidance and leadership of the Payroll Manager.

On any given day, one may be called upon to:



  • Team with other functional Payroll leads to coordination Payroll activities

  • Assist with the change management and process improvements of systems availability, functionality, and performance

  • Communicate regularly with other departments as needed, including HR, Relocation, Compensation, Fee, Travel & Treasury, and others

  • Maintain knowledge of payroll processing system enhancements and changes

  • Maintain knowledge of wage and tax laws to changes to assist with Payroll operational compliance

  • Investigate labor processing matters to determine root cause analysis and appropriate corrective action

  • Support audits of Time and Labor and Payroll system as requested

  • Test applicable time administration/labor processes as needed

  • Update procedures and job aids to ensure accuracy and relevance

  • Oversee multiple account reconciliations monthly

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the general functions of the position, as well as Payroll, Division, and Laboratory objectives



The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range:

$99,400 - $164,100

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:



  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or a relevant field, plus 5 years of directly related experience; or equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in HR, Payroll, or Finance

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance



Qualifications We Desire:



  • Experience with the following:

  • Performing general accounting/reporting functions associated with a variety of non-routine, complex financial operations requiring comprehensive knowledge

  • Extensive review and reporting on the activities in various accounts

  • Reviewing and ensuring the accuracy of information in financial systems related to payroll

  • Processing payroll including calculating pay checks and the appropriate tax withholding

  • PeopleSoft 9.2 Time and Labor and Payroll Modules as a time administrator and payroll processor

  • In-house processing of payroll for 1,000 or more employees

  • Oracle HCM Cloud

  • Developing training materials and training employees

  • Professional designation in accounting or payroll (e.g. CPA, FCP, CPP)

  • Possession of general accounting knowledge and the ability to demonstrate that knowledge

  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities in Sandia's four pillars for success: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Teamwork, and Critical Thinking

  • Proficiency creating, using, and auditing spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel

  • The ability to follow complex written instructions

  • Extensive knowledge of Sandia policies and procedures

  • The ability to craft policy, procedure, and practices from written guidelines, regulation, and law

Department 10512 calculates more than 17,000 pay checks totaling over $90 million dollars every two weeks. We issue paychecks to employees in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia. We enable products and services from our partner organizations across the lab including Pension, Benefits, Compensation, Staffing. The Payroll team is a group of highly dedicated, skilled, and knowledgeable staff working to deliver for every Sandia Employee.
