We are seeking an Environmental Health & Safety / Sustainability Managerto join our federal team at our York, PA location. In this role, the Environmental Health & Safety / Sustainability Manager you will develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy work environment across all areas of the business, as well as for any on-site contractors and visitors. This role will lead peers and leaders through tactical and strategic environmental, health and safety initiatives which culminate with a behavioral based safety culture.

As the E/H & S / Sustainability Manager, you will:



  • Implement and maintain site EHS management system plans, including ISO certifications, EHS RoadMap, and interfaces with regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and implement programs designed to improve workplace health, focusing on ergonomics, safe behaviors, hazard identification, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal safety/health regulations. Liaison with government agencies on regulatory issues.
  • Monitor changing and emerging safety standards and best practices, as well as implement programs and processes to address them.
  • Maintain safety contingency programs for all fire, spill, and other emergency response processes.
  • Provide oversight in completing, updating, maintaining and distributing manuals, processes and procedures related to environmental, health and safety, in coordination with human resources, facilities and operations.
  • Manage the Worker's Compensation program, following the company's processes and procedures in reporting and addressing any workplace injuries.
  • Assist with Emergency Response training and with any situations that occur within the facility as needed.
  • Ensure all safety and regulatory programs are in place and functioning and that training is conducted, documented and effective.
  • Responsible for maintaining ISO 14001 programs and certifications and ensuring the site is in compliance with all regulatory requirements through training and audits.
  • Conduct proper internal safety/regulatory audits of facilities on an annual basis.
  • Prepare and submit to the appropriate party all required environmental reports in a timely manner and ensure leadership is notified of all regulatory inspections and that any discrepancies noted during the inspection are corrected.
  • Supervise the maintenance of all safety data sheets (SDS's) to ensure they are up-to-date and readily accessible at all times.
  • Maintains current certificate of insurance updates on all outside contractors
  • Maintains adequacy of all plant services, such as steam, electricity, gas, water and waste disposal.
  • Developing and implementing motivational and incentive programs that promote a high degree of safety awareness and enthusiasm.
  • Establishing safety performance metrics, both leading and lagging indicators.


Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Safety Sciences, Occupational Safety and Health, or a related field required
  • 8 years of related EH&S experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to implement a behavioral based culture of safety through change management spanning all levels of an organization and with varying personalities and differing levels of acceptance of change.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal and state environmental laws, regulations, practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Robust understanding of OSHA and the application of OSHA standards in a manufacturing setting.
  • Able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, to crouch, stoop, bend and climb, and to push, pull and lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office (MS Excel, MS Outlook and MS PowerPoint, in particular) and capable of easily and quickly learning new software applications.
  • Excellent written communications skills, including the use of proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar to produce error-free copy, particularly composing letters, reports and documents used for decision making.
  • Outstanding oral communication skills including tack and diplomacy which would be utilized during customer service, conflict management, and development of relationships with internal and external contact.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and diverse projects including, analytical thinking, planning, prioritizing, problem solving, decision making and carrying out assigned projects with minimal supervision.
  • Must handle sensitive or confidential information with discretion.
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced, team environment, under pressure with time constraints while responding and adapting to change favorably and quickly.
