Overview

Interested in joining our Systems & Software Test Engineering Team?

TA Instruments is seeking a hands-on System & Software Test Engineer to validate the performance and reliability of advanced analytical instruments. This role involves testing across hardware, firmware, and browser-based software layers, with a strong focus on Linux-based systems and embedded workflows.



Responsibilities

Typical tasks include, but are not limited to:

    Design and execute manual test cases across hardware/software/firmware boundaries
  • Validate instrument workflows, error handling, and system-level behavior
  • Test browser-based web applications and RESTful APIs
  • Use Linux CLI tools and scripting (bash, Python) for log analysis and automation
  • Build and deploy embedded systems using BitBake, Yocto, and Docker
  • Operate lab instruments under varied conditions and document results in Jira/Confluence
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define test strategies and troubleshoot issues


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's in CS, EE, ME, Physics, or related field
  • 3+ years testing complex systems involving embedded software or physical devices

Technical Skills:

  • Linux command-line proficiency and shell scripting
  • BitBake/Yocto build systems and containerization (Docker)
  • Serial communication protocols (RS-232, USB, Ethernet, CAN)
  • Experience testing APIs, RESTful services, and validating data integrity.
  • Familiarity with tools like oscilloscopes, serial terminals, and log analyzers
  • Version control (Git), issue tracking (Jira), documentation (Confluence)
  • Simple automation scripts (bash, Python, etc.)

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with scientific instruments (thermal analysis, rheology, etc.)
  • Knowledge of FDA 21 CFR Part 11 or ISO 9001 standards
  • Exposure to test automation tools (Selenium, Playwright, TestComplete)
