Assists in the implementation of new systems in the Health Information Services Department. Monitors medical record runner functions. Runs reports from HIS databases to assess record procurement receipt rates by unit/departments. Works collaboratively with unit/departments to improve record receipt rates.. Trains department staff in record procurement, and quality control. Interact with hospital departments as needed. Assists with the system administration as needed.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Works with HIS Medical Records Specialist to establish/develop the section strategic plan, including section goals, objectives and budget to meet the hospital's mission, goals and objectives.
  2. Ensures section productivity and achievement of department service standards.
  3. Collaborates with HIS Medical Record Specialist to evaluate manual/automated procedures, workflow, work assignments, policy and procedures, staffing requirements, new technology, vendors, contracts and industry development etc., for redesign, refinement, etc. for department.
  4. Prepares needed statistical and other reports as required internally and externally for section, i.e. delivery data base for record receipt.
  5. Ensures records are provided as schedule and timely for daily vendor pickup.
  6. Coordinates with record procurement staff at NSF and NSC Campuses and all off-site locations to ensure timely record receipt and adherence with HIPPA confidentiality requirements.
  7. Communicates with all hospital departments as needed regarding receipt of medical records.
  8. Implements process improvement as needed.

REQUIRED:

  1. Associate's Degree.
  2. Two (2) years experience in an acute care hospital medical record or quality department.
  3. Demonstrated experience in QCI concepts and tools and techniques.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge/skills in legal and JCAHO requirements.
  5. Demonstrated proficiency in excel, power point, etc.

PREFERRED:

  1. RHIT/RHIA
  2. Three (3) years experience in a hospital medical record department,
