Summary

Responsible for handling customer calls, creates service orders, and resolves service problems politely and efficiently, following department policies and procedures. In addition to generating inbound commercial sales by creating contractual agreements of front load and roll off containers, the role is also responsible for verifying cash drawers, entering correct account information, processing billing inquiries, account adjustments processing payments and collecting monies owed to the City of Garland in payment for Sanitation Dept. The role requires professional and friendly engagement with internal and external customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Investigate missed container reports utilizing Samsara, communicate findings to staff and customers, maintain documentation

  • Enter all payments into cash drawer and record payment transactions.

  • Interact with customers or their agents in person, by phone, or in writing, to resolve problems and/or inquiries relating to waste collection payments, fees and scale weights.

  • Research, analyze and process adjustments required for correction of payments and/or refunds and sales tax exemptions.

  • Open and close service orders.

  • Ability to manage multiple duties in a supporting role such as Customer Care Representative, Scale Attendant, Dispatcher.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.)

  • 2 years related experience

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related area

  • 4-6 years experience in cash handling, customer service, utility billing or related field

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Skill in conflict resolution

  • Skill in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

  • Excellent customer service skills in person and over the telephone

  • Skill in basic arithmetic

  • Skill in balancing cash drawers and operating a cashiering system

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works in a typical office environment; relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.
