DESCRIPTION OF WORK

During this internship, you will collaborate closely with mechanics to acquire vital skills necessary for safe and efficient operations while assisting with various analytical, preventative maintenance, and repair tasks for a diverse fleet that encompasses construction equipment, trucks, cars, and hand tools. You will understand the significance of maintaining a clean and organized workspace as you carry out your daily responsibilities. You will gain practical experience and knowledge in general repair and preventative maintenance, including tasks such as oil changes, tire replacements, brake inspections and replacements, exhaust system evaluations, suspension repairs, air conditioning diagnostics, and repair documentation. Additionally, you will learn to interpret work orders and properly handle, use, and care for tools and equipment. Throughout your time in the automotive garage, you will consistently observe and practice safety protocols, familiarize yourself with hazardous equipment and materials, and develop essential soft skills such as punctuality, responsibility, and accountability, including the completion of time sheets and computer diagnostics. You may also assist more experienced tradespeople with complex repairs, such as engine rebuilds, heating and cooling system repairs, transmission work, brake system maintenance, and hydraulic system repairs, as well as routine bodywork. Furthermore, you may be required to travel to various work sites and participate in field activities within the District and across the state. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Work schedule will vary based on agreement between high school and COPA location
- This internship will run July 1, 2025 and end on June 30, 2026.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements:
- You must be at least 16 years of age.
- You must be a junior or senior enrolled in high school during the 2025 - 2026 school year.
Additional Requirements:
- Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
- Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
- By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
