Overview
The Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing seeks a creative, enthusiastic, and experienced web designer and digital strategist to promote Vermont as a global travel destination and support the expansion of tourism in the State. The ideal candidate for this position will be innovative, web and multimedia savvy, and be able to use campaign and user data to drive highly effective website, email marketing, and other digital experiences. The primary responsibility for this position is to manage and evolve the state's official tourism website, VermontVacation.com to provide a compelling user experience by designing relevant content in a clear, engaging, and intuitive way. The position will work with an in-house content and design team as well as external contractors to develop a dynamic website including vacation planning tools and systems to provide a best-in-class experience for consumers. Duties include ongoing maintenance of visual and written content via a custom WordPress content management system; updates to UX/IA based on user profiles and usage patterns; and on-going assessment and optimization of website performance. Position will be the primary point of contact with both the Agency of Digital Services and outside contractors responsible for specific website development, design and server management duties. Position will support the Director of Marketing Strategy and Research on interpretation and reporting of Google Analytics and SEO-related data to inform content strategy, SEO/SEM strategy, and overall site improvements. Work will also include conversion development and tracking, placing pixels and/or appropriate code on the website. This position will also provide digital strategy expertise on tourism related websites, including ThinkVermont.com and accd.vermont.gov. Duties are performed in both a standard office setting and remote (at home) location. Standard office setting is open full time if the employee prefers to work on site. Attendance at certain events may require minimal travel or overnight stay(s). The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of experience in web design, content development, communications, and digital marketing. The ability to turn data and information into insights and actions is strongly desired. Candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with a diverse range of industry partners and colleagues. Proficiency and experience with SEO, HTML5/CSS, JavaScript, web security best practices, and WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Requirements), Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, Drupal, Google Adwords, and email marketing preferred. Duties are performed in a variety of settings, including office, producer and market sites, and public events. Substantial in-state and some out-of-state travel is involved for which private reliable means of transportation must be available. Public contact and communication, both verbally and in writing, is frequently necessary. An incumbent must coordinate activities with other departmental staff and interact considerably with agricultural business people, interest groups and the general public. Certain required activities will occur outside of normal office hours. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree AND four (4) years at or above a technical level in digital marketing, web development, computer science, marketing communications or advertising. Total Compensation
