Responsible to supervise the operation of Patient Food Services under the supervision of the Director. Performs a variety of duties including the planning and supervision of patient food assembly and service, scheduling, hiring, training, evaluating and discipline of patient food service personnel. Ensures patient satisfaction and good public relations are achieved through the safe and efficient use of resources.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Patient Food Services Staff

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Establishes goals and oversees implementation of patient food services needs based upon medical direction, patient population and contract.

  • Hires, leads, directs, coaches, trains, and develops patient services team members.
  • Participates in facility-wide and department Performance Improvement Program and on Performance Improvement teams to improve processes and patient care.
  • Follows facility, department, Unidine, and Compass safety policies and procedures to include occurrence reporting.
  • Follows the facility's protocols for Hazardous Materials and Waste Program.
  • Adheres to Emergency Preparedness Program. Participates in disaster drills as appropriate.
  • Adheres to Life Safety Program and participates in fire drills as appropriate.
  • Responds to utility failures per Department policy and adheres to Lock-out/Tag-out policies as appropriate.
  • Communicates effectively with all team members, patients and families through conferences, individual consultation and committee participation. This includes telephone, written, and electronic communication.
  • Communicates facility, department, Unidine, and Compass information at staff meetings, group presentations and through written memos.
  • Participates and attends all departmental meetings, staff development, and professional programs, as appropriate.
  • Projects and practices consistent ownership attributes, which provide a high level of customer service at all points of contact.
  • Performs other tasks that may be assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree (A. S.) from two-year college with one (1) year work experience with some supervisory responsibilities preferred. Dietary Manager Certification required if associate doesn't have an associate degree or higher in nutrition or dietetics. For larger facilities, B.S. degree in Nutrition or Hospitality Management or equivalent preferred.

Language

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before associates of facility. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.

Computer Skills:

  • Possesses necessary skills to effectively operate hospital's admission, discharge and transfer (ADT) system, and other computer-based systems, which manage patient-care records.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
