Description
The Staff Research Associate I (SRA I) will assist in the preparation, management, and daily use of critical laboratory resources, including reagents for molecular biology experiments (such as 2XYT, TAE, and bacterial plates) and mammalian cell culture experiments. The SRA I will optimize and perform various laboratory techniques, assist with determining the best experimental procedures for critical experiments, and carry out the isolation of protein, RNA, and DNA. Responsibilities also include performing maxipreps, minipreps, restriction digests, and electrophoresis of plasmids, as well as producing lentiviral vectors and transducing cells with these vectors. The position involves conducting experiments using animal models of lentiviral transduction and working with BSL2+ replication-competent viruses, such as human immunodeficiency virus type 1. A significant portion of the job will require extensive tissue culture work, including routine cell maintenance. The role also demands basic knowledge of molecular biology techniques, as described in the textbook Molecular Cloning (Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press). The SRA I will work closely with other lab members to conduct large-scale experiments, assist with general lab organization, ordering, stocking, and inventory maintenance, manage chemical and biohazard safety, and participate in the cleaning and upkeep of laboratory and office spaces.
