Job Summary:

The Huber research group is developing new generations of catalysts, reactors, spectroscopic and imaging tools, and computational models that are essential for understanding and controlling the chemical transformation of biomass into fuels, chemicals and sweeteners. Professor Huber has authored over 260 peer-reviewed publications including four publications in Science. He has more than 30 different patents several which are licensed to different companies. The Huber research group uses a wide range of chemical engineering tools to understand and optimize biomass conversion to fuels and chemicals, including: heterogeneous catalysis, kinetic modeling, reaction engineering, spectroscopy, analytical chemistry, nanotechnology, catalyst synthesis, conceptual process design, modeling of transport phenomena, and theoretical chemistry. These tools have been combined to develop a number of catalytic technologies for the production of clean fuels and chemicals. This project will focus on the catalytic conversion of dairy wastes into sweeteners.


Responsibilities:
Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.

  • 25% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • 10% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • 10% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • 15% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
  • 10% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
  • 10% Performs literature reviews and writes reports
  • 20% Does market analysis and writes grant applications

2+ years in entrepreneurship
Experience in technoeconomic analysis
Experience in designing a pilot plant for lactose hydrolysis


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.


Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 3 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding


Salary:

Minimum $50,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications


Additional Information:

This position is expected to end on August 31, 2025 due to funding, but may be extended should additional funding be secured.
