The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. Position Summary |
Full time position working in the Clinical Pathology Laboratory in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Duties include performing testing in areas of Hematology, Coagulation, Blood Banking, Urinalysis, Cytology, Endocrinology, and Chemistry. The employee will be able to work independently in organizing and performing laboratory procedures. This employee will be responsible for performing assays, quality assurance, maintenance, and troubleshooting on a variety of analyzers and assays. Employees may also be responsible for teaching fourth year students during the Clinical Pathology rotation. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
Considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, equipment and techniques of medical technology.
Basic use of computer applications.
Considerable knowledge of the principles of chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, cytology, coagulation, and endocrinology as related to performing testing of blood and body fluids.
Organizes well, has problem solving skills, basic use of a Lab Information System as well as Microsoft Word. Has good communication skills and works well with others.
Ability to instruct new personnel, student workers, and fourth year students in a clinical lab environment.
Ability to perform assigned tasks according to standard operating procedures and to make accurate observations in test results.
Ability to work independently once training has been completed. |

1. Operates and maintains various types of laboratory equipment, which may include hematology, chemistry, endocrinology, blood gas analyzers, microscopes, and centrifuges.
2. Assists with or conducts training for new employees and/or fourth year students during their Pathology rotation.
3. Performs major hematology analyzer maintenance and majority of problem troubleshooting.
4. Communicates lab problems to supervisor daily. |
