Description

Job Title: Thrift Store Manager

FLSA Status: Full Time - non-exempt
Reports to: Envoy In-Charge

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8 am-4:30 pm OR Tues-Sat 8 am-4:30 pm
Supervises: Assistant Store Manager & Clerks/Sorters

Rate of Pay: $20/Hour

Closing Date: 06/15/2025

Benefits: Standard; Full-Time, Non-Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:

Function

The Thrift Store Manager is responsible for the operational success of the Thrift Stores and Warehouse Operations of the Sheridan Corps. This includes management of personnel, property, marketing, store set-up, back-room processing, bulk "rag" sales, transportation of Target salvage merchandise, and all production and retail operations.

Duties and Responsibilities



  • Directly supervise the assistant store manager to develop a culture that accurately reflects the values of The Salvation Army and maximizes profitability.
  • Coach all store personnel on how to stock, display, and discount merchandise according to The Salvation Army policies & procedures and best practices.
  • Oversee store security, banking functions, IT, POS register operations, and sales reports.
  • Make regular sales reports to the Envoy In-Charge, highlighting trends and making suggestions.
  • Regularly inspect the building and grounds and regularly meet with staff to promptly report facilities or employee issues to the Envoy In-Charge.
  • Train the assistant manager and ensure the training of all staff (paid, AARP, and volunteer) in guest/customer relations.
  • Ensure the store and production spaces are clean, neat, organized, and safe.
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled. Lead store staff meetings as needed.
  • Assist the Envoy In-Charge in preparing the store and warehouse sections of the annual budget and staffing table.
  • Supervise the production (clerk-sorters) and Target transportation teams to ensure the store is stocked for maximum profitability.
  • Oversee the sale of bulk items, including clothing bales to maximize profit and conform to Salvation Army policies, procedures, and best practices (duty of Warehouse Specialist).
  • Ensure efficient processing of items with proper pricing, tagging, rotation, and all other related processes that contribute to a well-run thrift industry (duty of Ass. Manager and Clerk/Sorters).
  • Ensure all equipment and vehicles are safe and well maintained.
  • Assist in developing and evaluating marketing and advertising to ensure maximum profitability.

Education, Experience, Skills, Qualifications



  • Education/Experience

    • proven success in retail management (thrift store management a plus) Preferred.
    • High school graduation or equivalent required.


  • Driving

    • A minimum age of 21 (for insurance provision) and possession of a valid in-state driver's license is required.
    • An MVR will be processed every year in accordance with The Salvation Army's policies.


  • Background Check

    • Continued employment will be contingent upon a biennial (every two years) background check that is processed in accordance with The Salvation Army's policies.
