POSITION TITLE: CHildren's Ministry coordinator

STATUS: FULL TIME / NON-EXEMPT

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: CORPS OFFICER

MISSION STATEMENT:

SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Children's Ministry Coordinator will be responsible for the active discipleship of children in the Corps through Sunday School, weekly youth programming, and other Salvation Army events. They will also be responsible for outreach and to mentor youth in the community through the after-school program, summer day camp, and other various outreach opportunities. They will work with the Corps Officer and other ministry staff to ensure that we as a ministry team meet the needs of all our church members, as well as reach out to the community. This position, alongside the Corps Officer, will be responsible for recruiting, training, and equipping volunteers to support the Youth Ministries of the Yakima Corps.



QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must:



  • Possess a positive Christian experience and be willing and able to share it.
  • Be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid WA state Drivers License
  • Have an understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army's mission, philosophy, programs, and practices.
  • S. Diploma or GED. Some college and/or degree preferred. On the job experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
  • Experience teaching or working with children in an educational or ministerial environment.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification or be willing to acquire both upon acceptance of job offer.
  • Have experience working with volunteers and employees in both team and supervisory roles.
  • Demonstrate leadership ability.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:



  • Have the ability to plan and schedule events, programs, and activities.
  • Have the ability to plan, direct, and evaluate the work of subordinates.
  • Have the ability to work independently or with other staff members.
  • Be able to keep calm in demanding situations. Have the ability to work under the restrictions of a monthly budget.
  • Have the ability to plan and execute events.
  • Weekly work schedule is based on programming.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Administrative Duties:



  • Keep open communication with Corps Officer regarding Children's Ministry Coordinator schedule, programs, trainings, and events.
  • Keep and report statistics for each individual youth program.
  • Coordinate any driver or vehicle needs
  • If required, collect tuition for after school programs, summer day camp & Camp Arnold.
  • Maintain classrooms and bulletin boards, making sure areas are clean each day. Report any damage or issues to the Corps Associate as soon as possible.
  • Coordinate with Ministry Program Support Specialist to ensure accurate timecards for ASP Mentors.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to ASP Mentors, including directing work, scheduling, employee reviews, and corrective action as needed.
  • Create social media posts weekly, monthly calendars for corps & senior programming, flyers, and quarterly newsletters.
  • Responsible for incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Assist with Sunday morning offering, ensuring it is counted by 2 people, complete necessary paperwork & scan accordingly.
  • Complete monthly stats for children's programs
  • Assist with seasonal events.
  • As a corporate credit card holder, process receipts weekly.



Program Development:



  • Secure needed supplies through current budget.
  • Develop and distribute program information and public relations materials.
  • Oversee the daily operation of the After School Program.
  • Recruit students for the After School Program.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians of program participants.
  • Plan outreach events directed specifically toward elementary youth.
  • Coordinate pastoral care for children ensuring that regular contact is made.
  • Responsible to plan, implement, and execute programs including but not limited to: Troops, VBS, Day Camp, Sunday school, Junior Soldiers, After School Program, etc.
  • Plan and implementation of quarterly youth events.


  • Follow child protection policies of The Salvation Army.


  • Provide or assist with transportation to Salvation Army events as needed.
  • Other program related tasks as needed or required by the Corps Officer.



CAMP ARNOLD



  • Recruit campers and complete all necessary paperwork to attend residential camp.
  • Follow up the day before leaving for Camp Arnold to remind youth and parents time & location to meet for transportation.
  • Remind youth & parents of items needed (clothing) to take to camp.
  • Provide or assist with transportation to summer camps as needed.



Summer Day Camp:



  • Oversee registration.
  • Plan, prepare, and execute all activities and field trips.
  • Supervise day camp staff, including assigning duties, scheduling breaks, weekly staff schedules, and orientation.
  • Interview and assist in selection of Summer Day Camp staff.
  • Promote Summer Day Camp via digital fliers and mailings.
  • Arrange all PR with school district for Summer Day Camp (and other events throughout the year)
  • Provide or assist with transportation for any field trips.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Ability to operate telephone.
  • Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer.
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs.
  • Ability to access and produce information from a computer.
  • Ability to understand written information.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Must be 21 yrs of age or older.

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance are offered.

Life and Voluntary Options. An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.

Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave: 12 day.s of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months' service time.

Paid Vacation:



  • Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
  • Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
  • Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months' service time.


Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
