New Hanover County is seeking an experienced Forensic Lab professional to join the Sheriff's Office as Forensic Quality Assurance Manager. This position is responsible for the day to day operations of the Forensic Lab's Quality Assurance program which includes overseeing and maintaining safe laboratory conditions, ensuring new technical procedures are validated, conducting inspections, preparing reports, testifying in court as an expert witness, and preparing exhibits for court. Essential duties include the following.
- Ensures conformance with accreditation standards.
- Designs, administers, and monitors the Proficiency Testing Program and evaluates results when available.
- Coordinates and conducts quarterly internal audits of laboratory operations culminating in a yearly audit, reports the results of such, and maintains records.
- Creates the Management Review Report and oversees the management review meeting.
- Assists with oversight of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) system which includes knowing how to create new Crystal reports, updating current reports, and contacting the company for assistance when needed.
- Reviews, develops, and authorizes the Quality Assurance Manual, additional discipline specific Standard Operating Procedures and discipline specific training manuals.
- Serves as subject matter expert. Identifies training needs, educates staff, delivers trainings and creates and maintains training materials and records for all personnel. Creates and maintains personnel records.
- Coordinates with American National Standards Institute National Accreditation Board (ANAB) for yearly assessments to maintain accreditation and provide necessary documentation to ANAB for review.
- Oversees and maintains safe laboratory conditions.
- Performs case file audits as needed.
- Investigates discrepancies, performs root cause analysis, coordinating the resolution of discrepancies, writing up corrective action reports, maintaining records, and keeping up to date on any chances that result from the process.
- Coordinates and/or conducts investigations of quality issues and reports to lab management on the performance of the management system and any need for improvement.
- Conducts forensic analysis as required.
- May supervise staff, prioritize and assign work; conduct performance evaluations; ensure staff is trained; and make hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.

Hours:
Monday - Friday. Must be available for after hour calls and report to work during emergency situations.
Salary Information:
The
hiring range for this position is
$62,126-$105,615 annually plus a competitive benefits package. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

Qualifications
-
Bachelor's Degree in a Forensic Science, Criminal Justice Administration Management and three (3) years of experience working in a similar structured setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's Degree Preferred. Operating under a 17025 accredited Lab is a plus.
