Job Description: Responsibilities 1. Perform whole blood collection procedures, including allogeneic, autologous, directed, therapeutic and mini-mobile. 2. Perform standard collection tasks such as, drive set up/function checks, donor reaction care, collection set labeling, discontinuing (disengagement), post-collection donor care and post-collection blood processing. 3. Operate ARC vehicles as required, including load, set up, maintain and tear down supplies and equipment. ------------------------- Scope Full knowledge of job. Substantial acquaintance with and understanding of general aspects of the job. Contact within department and occasionally outside of organization. ------------------------- Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience: Medical assistant or phlebotomy training preferred. Management Experience: N/A Skills & Abilities: Ability to work on a team. Customer service skills including effective verbal communication and public relations required. Basic computer skills desirable. Applicable local licensure if required by state directives. A current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Previous truck and/or bus driving experience desirable. Note: Collections Staff hired with DOT driving responsibilities will be required to pass DOT physical and related requirements and be able to possess or obtain a medical certification of at least one-year duration. Minimum height of 60 inches is required to ensure the ability to safely operate a cargo van or large truck. Travel: Limited, but may be required. *Combination of candidate's education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description's minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted). ------------------------- Physical Requirements Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs. Physical requirements may include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., squatting, push or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs, good manual dexterity, the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes is required. At the American Red Cross, we conduct many mobile blood drives at businesses, schools and many other locations. All staff work as a team to setup and tear down the equipment required to conduct a mobile blood drive. This involves pushing carts up to 250 lbs., setting up beds and handling many totes containing equipment and snacks for the donors.
